And some people are better at their job, than others.

People are talking as if he’s Schumacher’s man. However, it seems as if he was Ryan Lowe’s man at Bury and Plymouth. Schumacher inherited working with him, but he didn’t follow Schumacher to Stoke.

Sure, he probably respects his work and put it a good word. But, I assume, he’ll work for Fergal, rather than Schumacher.

Stoke had club legend Jon Walters as director of football / recruitment and he was ultimately the one who "shafted" Schumacher

I’m just hoping they all work well together and know their roles clearly?

course

had a look at the transfers he brought in that summer

few loans, few frees, few undisclosed

nothing that I'm aware was deemed outstanding business

Cosgrove & Matete the only two I've heard of

unless they've sold players on for milions not sure how he gets the title "Transfer King"

I'd be expecting him to constantly unearth unknown gems who sell on for big money, consistently, for a few years, before being referred to as that

Maybe he gave himself the nickname.

that's more like it

so that's 1

He helped put that promotion winning squad together, including Bali Mumba, Ryan Hardie, Niall Ennis, Whittaker, Finn Azaz (now Boro), Brendan Galloway, Dan Scarr. All made big contributions

had a quick look

he joined in 2022

Hardie, Ennis, Galloway & Scarr were already there

Azaz was on loan from Villa

They signed Mumba in the Champsionship

so we've still only got Whittaker to back up this nickname of his

fwiw he spent 5 years in the same job at Bury but I'm not trawling back through his time there

Let them get on with it, eh?

Revisit this on 1st September?

I'm not stopping them

just curious about this nickname he has and what he's done to earn it

What's not to understand? One is a sporting director, the other more akin to a chief scout role

Whittaker joined Argyle on 1st Jan 2022, he'd scored a hat-trick against them a few months earlier.

I don't know when in 2022 Dickinson joined but safe to assume he had nothing to do with that one either 😀

Sean Roughan, seen at stadium today hopefully it will go well

I think you're on the wrong thread Hoppy, this one's for rumours about the bloke that might recommend some players to SS at some point down the line, with a view to potential signings.

The other Irish lad at Lincoln, Paudie O'Connor, he's supposed to be a decent central defender too, might be able to tempt him and he's free.

Helping to build a team capable of going up?

From the league we're currently in.

That'll do for me, for now.

As we say, worry about getting up first, then worry about championship football later.

May 2022

TBF Wiki says they got him on a season long loan in summer 2022 (he was at Lincoln Jan 2022 to end of season)

they signed him permanent after they go promoted

well that's what it seems like but from all the names that have been chucked out as their best players in that team that got promoted, he didn't sign most of them

there's nothing I can see that suggests he's a transfer king or anything like that

none of this is crtiscm or anything, but based on my own research so far, I am not sure why he's called the transfer king

I'm going to ask Iles why, he's the one that started all this

That's a good idea. I wouldn't imagine the bloke thinks he's anything of the sort, neither does SS, just a bloke he's worked with for a number of years, trusts and is good at what he does.

He was with Lowe and SS from 2019 as Chief Analyst, then formally took up the Chief Scout role in July 2022. He will have been heavily involved in any of the deals bringing players in for the start of 2022/23, and no doubt his info informed the decision making on ones before that.
