Home and thawing out

3 points is great and i suppose all that matters really but i find it frustrating that we don't seem to have that killer instinct to put teams to bed...It feels like we sit and invite pressure making it hard for ourselves.

To be fair that's his usual playing style, but I agree that was his least impressive performance that I've seen.  Seemed to be playing with the handbrake on and Posh had a field day down their right.  Surely would have been subbed for Taylor if he'd been on bench.

Think some of it was to do with the wind, but some also down to Posh's tactics / personnel. They placed a lot of store on limiting our wingers first half, with Kioso and the no 28 doing a good job on Gale and Conway, and them doubling up on ACD on the other side.

It backfired though by allowing us space to get at them through the midfield that we exploited well

Conway got forward more second half but turned down a couple of opportunities to cross it for Dalby, then when he did decide to whizz it in his quality was a bit off. He's started ever so well this season, a little dip hardly unexpected

Great game to win. Frustrating we didn’t close the game out first half but a bit of credit to them for trying to play some decent footy.  Simons, Burstow & Forino all great for me.

Atmosphere was pretty flat, which Schuey alluded to in his interview. Shame. Probably the weather.

Anyway, 3 points is all that counts.

Think Peterborough did a very good job on us. Pressed at the right times and seemed to find good space between our lines and played some half decent stuff at times.

Schumacher better get used to today. It won’t always been bouncing and today’s atmosphere was much more reflective of the reality. Especially the groans when we were on the ropes in the 1st half, even 2-0 up it wasn’t great.

Thought Christie dived in way too many times than was necessary

couple of times on the ball he made Thomason look like prime Cruyff.

Hopefully just a bit of ring rust.

He does remind me of Tomo, being left footed, a bit gangly and sometimes taking an age to get the ball under control, or coughing up possession easily.  But as with Tomo, he can be great at driving the team forward and setting the tone, and his physicality is the best we've seen for years.

What's the question?

Playful reference to Mounts’ statement after last week’s game. He’s not a fan and him and Dalby are apparently “not the answer”.

TSL saved the first shot on target!!

Burstow took both his goals really well. Thought Dalby added some steel up front when he came on. Cissoko is really poor and offers little but a few step overs. Randall was also crap, looked uninterested/knackered not long after he came on, trotting about.

Poor game, should have been well clear as they were also pretty dire.

I'd agree with this. The first 11 is great but the bench needs some work.

I like Dalby as a different option up front, clearly no Burstow but a big physical presence we've missed in previous years.

Randall is miles off the level we need to be at (as is McAtee) so we just have to hope Forss nails the 10 role (or we try Dalby and Burstow together at times - Burstow is good enough to play there but as out main scorer I wouldn't want to push him back).

Cissoko - we should send him back from his loan asap. The other players don't want to pass to him as they know he'll lose the ball. Quite tough to watch how bad he is.

For me glad to get the win but coupled with the performance last week I thought we were shite in both games and looked vulnerable. A decent side could’ve had 3 or 4 today. They played some good stuff and got in easily three or 4 times.

To all the nay-sayers, TSL made a good save today 😎

The annoyance for me was that it was obvious we were getting overran in midfield, simple numbers game and we still went like for like on the subs. When SS first came, I really liked the adaptability and willingness to change things but just a little concerned that we’re so wedded to this system. Another man in the middle second half would’ve changed the dynamic of the game completely. They were really shite and were popping it around like Brazil at times.

2 great goals.. hope the lad keeps proving me wrong. We were poor today, but 3 points that’s all that matters.

Just home, had a curry, will post my thoughts before reading through.

3 points playing not so well is real improvement on the 1-1 draws when playing well.

Peterboro are a poor version of the team they have been for last few seasons, neat and tidy going forward, disorganised at the back. They just do not have many good players.

After starting well and strolling into a 2 goal lead fell into the trap of taking it too easy and letting them back into the game.

JSL did well today, usual 2 shots on target for one goal , so still has shit stats

Christie - Looked ok, certainly signs he could be a great acquisition , but tired later.

Conway - quieter than usual and a couple of times caught up front. Looked exposed at times but I think because Gale was awful.

Forino - Decent game, he is very good af heading the ball !

GJ - Better than last couple of weeks.

Simons - Some excellent work but him and his midfield mate dropping too deep to get the ball caused a lot more issues for us than them.

Erhahon -See Simons

Gale - Kicked early did not fancy it , did not track back well or take his man on. Surprised he made second half

C- Duberry got more involved second half but  still quiet , chances to kill the game off

Forss - Nice touches but faded, was one of the many giving ball away too easily in second half,

Burstow - Striker scores 2 decent goals can not really be criticised, how the fuck did he miss last week ?

Subs - Cissoko and Randal - Pointless - I am not Sheehans biggest fan but him on the bench but JR coming on before him is daft. McAtee better option than JR ( I know was not picked which is my point)

Dalby battled well won a few balls was one of the few not giving it away for free

Morley did ok would have bought him on when Gale went off.

Toal did ok

Nobody will remember that game in a few years.

Absolute dross. Freezing, wet, windy, horrendous football.

You could have wrote that a year ago.  Burton, bottom of league.  2-1.  Cruising at 2-0, they pull one back, nervy finish, crap atmosphere, unconvincing but welcome win (as if any of them aren't).

I bet you'd forgotten that one already, never mind in a few years!

I thought posh gave a good account today.

But at the end of the day I don’t give a shit about them.

3 points was all that mattered.

We got them.

We deserved them.

It was a great response after last weeks defeat.

We overcame the shit conditions.

Perfect response from Burstow after last week - so glad we have him (had a cheeky bet couple of weeks ago as L1 top scorer)

Two more wins in the next 3 would have us punching 👏

Today's goals mean Burstow is currently the league's leading goalscorer

Delighted for the lad especially after the miss last week. Must be some years that we've had one of our players at the top of the scoring charts.

Similar thoughts to others. Started very unlike us, on the front foot and made it look easy for 20 mins. You’ll struggle to find two better taken goals in the league today (and possibly this season), just proper strikers goals - he’s a class act.

All went a bit shit and sloppy after that, for the rest of the first half and their goal was coming.

2nd half was better and we had a 20 min spell where we should have killed it off with better decision making / finishing. Felt frustrating but the fact we never really looked too threatened is a big positive.

Conditions were awful and definitely didn’t help.

Christie’s first half performance showed what a step up he is at right back. Second half he slowed a bit, which is unsurprising given fitness, but I’m hopeful that he’ll make that position his own from now on.

Conway looked way off it. Played like he was half asleep which was strange, slow out to the wingers, caught in no man’s land, brushed off the ball - all very weird considering how good we know he is. Just put it down to an off day and move on, but I must admit to throwing a few verbals in the 93rd minute when he decided to run it forward rather than pass it, then lost it and left their winger completely free (who was fortunately offside or we were in big trouble).

TSL made a save, and a good one.

3 points, top scorer in the league and upwardly mobile. Skybet have us second favourites for the league, behind Cardiff - make of that what you will.

Agreed on Conway, my thoughts too, we really got away with that one that was (marginally) offside near the end.  In fact we seemed to get a lot of marginal offsides in our favour today that could have punished Conway going AWOL more than once.

Christie did OK, but looked nackered and off the pace a couple of times, I think JDC will be back in straight away for his extra energy and ability to overlap, which we missed.  But a great assist, and he even had a half decent shot, which we don't get from JDC.

TSL made a save, it was routine, not in the good category for me, awful finish from the Posh player in a great position.  Catching was great, distribution very good but I've noticed a few times this season and especially today he loves to come off his line, he's asking to be lobbed, leaves his goal gaping.  Was in no-man's land when EE gave the ball away, the player could have shot from distance into an open goal if he'd noticed.  Still unconvincing to say the least, but at least the goal was relatively unsaveable.

I have no recollection of that game at all.

Yet I do remember the year before 2-1 -unsurprising given it was 2 goals in injury time to win it. But I also remember the 0-0 the year before.

Shows how forgettable last season was

I agree, Hull don't need Burstow any more now than they did in August when he was surplus to requirements.  Scoring goals in L1 and being a championship player are 2 different things - Collins and Charles for eg (and yes Burstow has more to his game than those 2).

Problem might be is Hull are under a transfer embargo

An injury say to McBurnie and Burstow keeps banging them in then they might have a re-think

Along with all the awkward stuff which was fantastic today in awful conditions, he made a couple of good saves too, hopefully enough to stop all this over-analysis of whether he can be a a good goalkeeper in L1

I absolutely want him to succeed and am still hopeful he'll be the championship standard keeper we thought we were getting, but if any "doubts" about him have been his shot stopping (not the other stuff), then of course today doesn't allay those fears.  2 shots on target, 1 goal doesn't do a lot for his stats, we still need the evidence surely.  I love his distribution and clean catching though, nobody can accuse him of being stuck on his line like for eg Jussi.

Erhahon was on the left wing facing own goal and surrounded. Conway was too high and nobody was available for a pass. Erhahon was robbed, Posh slipped it down the side and pulled it back as 3 defenders were drawn to the ball leaving Kyoto with an easy finish. Lack of organisation and awareness as much as individual errors.

They didn't score from that one, that was the one TSL saved.  It wasn't great defending but from their point of view it was a good, well worked goal.

Hope you're still not settling for 5 points in next 3 😀  The other promotion contenders would love us to only win 1 in 3.  It has to be 2 wins or we stay off the pace.
