Popular Post Traf Posted March 18 Popular Post Posted March 18 We drew 0-0, let's blame Sheehan. We drew 0-0, let's blame Toal We drew 0-0, let's blame xyz Defence kept a clean sheet, the bare minimum we expect/hope for. 23 shots, only 3 on target 23 shots, no goals These stats are the real issue here. Not just this week, but last week and every other week since the season started bar Exeter away, where we generally do well anyway. Quote

frank_spencer Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Got to win this as I'm spending Easter weekend with 2 vale fans Quote

SS needs to get the starting line up and strategy right this time - lose and the bedsheets will start to make an appearance. Last night's performance wasn't good, but we didn't lose, and still should have won. Of course we have to improve; we've been up and down within games recently. Nevertheless results haven't exactly been bad. Can't help feeling a touch of disappointment has crept in as we haven't been able to make inroads into the gap above us. That is very much the responsibility of the manager and his staff to suss out and deal with. Manage tired and sore bodies, keep up morale, issue bollockings when necessary and gradually build them up for the play offs. Getting good results over Bradford and Stockport would be very useful in that regard. Quote

True, but I was thinking of it as more of another opportunity to create a buffer between us and the teams chasing us so wouldn’t need to beat the likes of Bradford and Stockport rather than catching Cardiff and Lincoln. Moreover the performance was not one that would be likely to get us good results in the tougher games to come. Quote

That's how we've played for the vast majority of the season. The only difference was that we didn't find a 90th minute winner against Doncaster or Rotherham this time. Quote
Zico Posted March 19 Posted March 19 whats the name of the pub / offy near Stoke station, where buses stop outside and take fans to the ground? or any away fan pubs in Burslem asking for a mate, obvs Quote

Any stat that suggests that, in any universe, we could be 15 points clear in first place and on course for 100+ points can obviously be discounted as lunacy. We're the biggest argument against anyone ever taking xG seriously as a thing. Quote

Not only that, but we would be 33 points clear of Lincoln 😀 That's the team that have gone 20 games unbeaten and have a GD of 37, so not just winning games by 1 goal. No more needs to be said about xG and for that matter "shots" stats or possession stats - they just don't mean anything. Quote
MalcolmW Posted March 19 Posted March 19 PV can focus on the FA Cup. They need to be relegated in case BorehamWood get into the EFL as they would need to beat them next season re-establish their current unique record of having beaten every other club in the top 44 tiers in a league maatch. Quote

You just have to listen to some of our “fans” slagging off the team during the game every week to know they are out there somewhere. I’m convinced they only go to games to show what twats they are….. Their only jobs are to stop the opposition's attacks, receive the ball from defenders or to get the ball back and release it to a more technical player further up the pitch as fast as they can.
