I cant be arsed reading all of this post now so apologies if this has been repeated but I agree with Mounts Kipper. I supporters bar is essential. Where do wanderers fans think of fresh songs? Clubs like Scum and Liverpool have their 'own' pubs and they always have new sonds to sing. I hear a new song about twice a season with Bolton, and then how can you learn them during a game?

Do Boltonians feel attached to the team anymore. Not like in the days of Burnden. A supporters bar would drag people together which would resonate in the stands on a saturday. Anyone seen the inside of the Pineapple in Astley Bridge? Top quality BWFC tribute theme throughout the bar and something like that, with Roadrunner classics and sky sports news on the TV's would make the BWFCSA Bar superb

I suggest location at McGinlay's old bar in town, with a pound a pint for season tickets holders/happy hour etc

You want us all to be together, but our opinions aren't worth reading?

"I can't be arsed............"

It's that kind of attitude that has created this problem, pal.

But why not use that as a supporters bar , they open it up for concerts ... you could open the doors on the out side and let people come and go as they please , you would have to make sure that no away fans got in but I'm sure that something could be sorted

If you have a ticket for the home ends then you can get in!

problem is the would charge astromical prices for beer like they do at every other function they have in that room, so no red ginger will go in...

A supporters bar in the ground is a great idea. They have them for corporate. Could just set up a markee in the exibition room. I reckon with everyone meeting up it would make a start for an atmosphere.

They would then staff the bar with un-employable non-english speaking staff and serve three people every half an hour, so will be no different to the bars under the stands!!

Would they be able to do this with the catering contracts they have in place anyhow? I cant see the firm currently the catering being happy about the club running alternatives??

in summary then

football is too expensive and people don't want to pay that much

rather than cite this as the reason for not going as much anymore, for some reason everyone blames the Reebok, which incidently we've been playing at for 8 years, or BWFC, whom have to operate as a business

if the above was the real reason for not going, our away attendances would still sell out/well every week, but they do not

football being expensive is not the club's fault as such

we'd all love them to let us in cheap, but it won't happen

Next Euro game ( [-o< ) when they know the top tier of the South Stand will be empty, they should get rid of the psychologically disadvantageous sight of of vast rows of empty seats by making the fcuk-off biggest flag ever and putting it up there. In fact if they made it big enough they could probably claim the biggest Cross of St George in the World and get in the papers. Could be cost neutral too if they got a sponsors logo in one corner.

if doubt that would happen (i,e big flag on upper tier) as people would complain just like they did when england were in potrugal over them car flags with st george on them , they`ll think were racists or summet daft like that ! :-k :-k

With regard to a location of a supporters bar..

What is that hall at the back of the East Stand used for?

A supporters' club in the ground? It will be just like these lads;

After going to Newcastle yesterday and the lack of atmosphere in both ends of the ground (until they went 3 up) I have to say its a lost cause. If you cant generate an atmosphere away from home with a away section that is sold out [-X

Agree Salford, yesterdays atmosphere, in the whole ground, was one of the worst I've ever seen. Viewed from the very back row of the ground ](*,)

Another point completly, but, having my application in on the day they went on sale, was suprised to end up on the back row! :-s

They probably started from the back.

Probably a bit serious for a first post, but have read all this with interest, and had to reply, so here goes...

In my humble opinion, a football match, like a concert or TV show needs some sort of warm up. Now, I'm not suggesting a 10 minute stand up set from Mr gartside, but I do agree that this warm up should be fans getting together to swap songs, talk football and other unrelated b ollocks and generally have the crack before going to the game. Think Marseille (my only European away attendance) For the whole of the day of the match (and a few days before for some) Wanderers fans got together and shared the experience that is Wanderers. Come kick off, and the good mood that this generated resulted in almost legendary away atmosphere, even against "karaoke boy" in the Marseille end.

What I'm saying is that regardless of ticket prices, there will never be an atmosphere when people just turn up, watch the game, then go home.

However, you cannot rely on the club to run any sort of meeting place that will have the necessary atmosphere. For this you cannot totally blame the club. They have rules to abide by, which are put in place by over-zealous licensing officials. They are scared to death over safety issues. They do not want to be seen to be encouraging "binge drinking". All this will result in a pint of peess in a plastic cup. And it will probably cost well over ??3.

So what do we do?

In the short term, all anyone can do is create their own atmosphere, in their own meeting places. This would be all well and good, but the pubs need to know what the crack is as well. I am guilty of frequenting the hotel bar before the match, but that is solely because last time I tried a pub (Barnstormers) it took me the best part of half an hour just to get served by some pig ignorant bint who had ignored me to serve her mates. If the pubs got their acts together, there would be no need to talk of travel from the town centre,or of paying inflated club prices. All get together, have a few beers, then get in the ground and keep going where you left off.

In the long term, hopefully this will catch on, all the pub regulars will move together in their own parts of the ground, leaving the families in their own clean and quiet part, whilst the fans who want to have a crack can do so without being told to be quiet.

Sorry to witter on to make a short point, but I feel that if a decent atmosphere isn't created fairly soon, too many fans will turn their backs on the game for good.

Cracking first post. I agree with all you have said.

On the way down to Burnden Park you could go in any of the pubs on Manchester road and join in with the 'atmosphere'. Banter and songs. Being in amongst all that wound you up almost into a frenzy and that all carried on in the ground. The pubs I have been in before a match at The Reebok are just about as sterile and devoid of atmosphere as the match itself. The pub formerly known as Horwich Park Inn, where I have been since finding Wanderersways is also a family eating establishment so I can understand them not really wanting vulgar songs being sung. We are despeate for a decent 'old-style' pub within the Middlebrook development.

I don't agree with the supporters club idea or of the club having happy hours etc. However the point about a build up to the game is a great one.

I used to love walking up Bury Road and having a drink in the Braddy Arms, Sweet Green, Cattle, Trotters, Churchills, Waggon, King Bill, wherever. There was always a certain buzz about the place on a matchday.

The Reebok is such a sterile setting, and the HPI, Jeffersons etc. such characterless shells that I'm afraid that side of things has gone forever. My pre-match routine involves being stuck in traffic on Chorley New and moaning about being charged ??6 to park.

Besiktas fans don't need to pre-match pub or to be pissed up, passion alone is enough. We could learn a lot from them, however, the orange warriors and the plod would quash any attempts to act like them anyway. Gartside needs to address this first and foremostly.
