Eddie Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Its obvious that those who dont want Klasnic are in the small minority. If we need a goalscorer, then Klasnic is fine by me. But some of us dont think we need a goalscorer. Just because theres a thread on goalscorer needed doesnt mean it is correct. I can appreciate both sides of the argument, but i certainly dont think my side of the argument is stupid. Some think Klasnic is needed for bolton to progress and hopefully perform better next season. Others, such as me, think the formation of the team is more important, and that we already have the players, without Klasnic, to do better than we did next season. I wont complain if we sign Klasnic, having options is great. Fitting him in alongside our current players is the real challenge for Coyle. I know it's not going to happen but I would have Klasnic as the 1 up top ahead of Davies. With the players that we have in the squad now, there should be much more of an emphasis of football on the ground, getting it out to Petrov and Lee and less aimless balls forward. For me Davies doesn't have the technical ability to fit into that style of play, as much as I think the guy is a legend, his link up play, positioning and finishing amongst other things are nowhere near as good as Klasnic's. With Holden/Wilshere given a kind of free role in the midfield 3 and able to get up and around Klasnic, and Lee and Petrov constantly creating chances from either side, I know who I would prefer to be in and around the box on the end of them.

But the problem with that especially away from home is would the ball stick or would it just keep coming back in ever increasing waves?
snackum Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 But even if Klasnic played in those games, how many goals would we have scored, we'll never know, but im banking on it not being many. Even if Villa or Eto'o or any other finisher played in those games i'm not convinced we'd of scored. I only went to the Oldham game, so i can only make judgement on that. At no point did we create the chances for someone like klasnic to score in that game. Theres no point having Klasnic sat upfront if he doesnt get the service. If you'd have said three games with 0 goals but 60 shots off target, then fine, get a goalscorer in, its obvious we need one. But i don't think thats the case. Start creating the chances before we think about finishing em off. I'd like to think that the changes that Coyle has made to the side and the training will be designed to give him (and SKD & Elmander) not just more service, but better service than they had last year. ( I have no evidence, just a hope !)
Eddie Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 [/b] But the problem with that especially away from home is would the ball stick or would it just keep coming back in ever increasing waves? Very true Mounts, and thinking of it in that way then I would say you could play the same midfield (Muamba/Davis/Holden) but not give Holden as much freedom, play Davies up top, and tell the wingers to get forward whenever they can. I suppose what I should have said is that just because we might play 541 it doesn't mean IMO that Klasnic could not work in that formation against some teams, like anyone outside the top 8 at home, and a few teams away.
onlyoneawalker Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 [/b] But the problem with that especially away from home is would the ball stick or would it just keep coming back in ever increasing waves? Our ball retention has been shambolic over the last 2 years - with Klasnic up top and playing more football it might get better, you'd hope it would, worth the risk in my book - if jack Wilshere is in our team our ball retention would improve
Eavesy Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I would like to see how Klasnic would do on his own upfront. If we played on the floor, i think we would keep the ball better, as Davies isnt technically good enough to hold it at his feet and then find a pass, where as klasnic is. I also think that Elmander is just as good as Klasnic at his feet when keeping possession. However, We wouldnt be able to press them high up as we would like, as Klasnic doesnt have the fitness to close down as much as Davies does. But Elmander does have the fitness and the work rate to press as much as Davies. As pointed out, against Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, City, Spurs, Villa and Everton, naturally these teams are going to have more possession than us and we need players that can press and close down. Thats 8 games away and possibly up to 8 games at home where Klasnic wouldnt be the ideal choice.
ph31 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Klasnic started on his own upfront v Wolves away. It didn't work. At all. He's a great finisher but not a target man.

wayne cramp Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 coyle interview from st.johnstone on ssn a few minutes ago - klasnic contract was terminated with nantes last week further talks will be taking place a bit of water to pass under the bridge before this deal is concluded . sounded promising (sorry to upset a few ) also not given up on wilshere , no final decision yet made by wenger .
tarian1979 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 [/b] But the problem with that especially away from home is would the ball stick or would it just keep coming back in ever increasing waves? I dont believe we have to be so rigid in playing the same players home or away. Playing Davies away from home then to hold ball up, home games dont play. Smaller teams like ourselves need to be more flexible with the sides we send out in various games. Not as simple as "davies up front" or "klasnic up front" in a 4 5 1. depends who and where you're playing
passmosster Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 not given up on wilshere , no final decision yet made by wenger . Yep and Elvis isn't dead either.
Guest Blixa Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 He's not - although he's not made a record as good as Oliver's Army in years.
Take Hunt Off Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Apparantly he was at the Reebok at the weekend but his wage demands are too high , he is now effectively touting himself about trying to get another prem club to stump up ?60k a week , given that Petrov is on ?30k a week & is a player of similar pedigree I think we should move on.........

Underpants Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I can't understand why we need Klasnic. We've got Elmander and a few weeks ago there seemed to be plenty of support for him - this is his year don't forget, he told us that.

Guest Blixa Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Not sure why he would drag his arse to Bolton to discuss wages. Surely his agent would have called first to discuss this?
Felgate Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 klasnic signed - 2 year contract, according to breaking news on Sky Sports News. Personally, happy with that.
tarian1979 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Thank christ A goalscoring forward/striker/centre forward however you want to refer to them in the flanks. God forbid.
bwfcol Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Fairly happy with that, I feel we lack pace upfront but I do feel the signings this summer have improved the squad
Guest Frandsen08 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 in the words of alan partridge kiss my face!
