HazzyinBolton Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I was clever enough to get caught doing 57 in a 50 so I'm on one of these things this week. Any dos & donts - other than turning up pissed & asking them why they're not out catching real criminals? Quote
Gonk Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 See below for 3 pages of stuff Lots here in this thread Quote

Any dos & donts - other than turning up pissed & asking them why they're not out catching real criminals? The people who run them are nothing to do with the police, it is surprising how much you don't know/have forgot about driving safely, at the end of the day it saves you getting 3 points Quote
Breightmet Boy Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 My dad got done for speeding on the way back from one, mind you the dementia was starting to kick in Quote
Traf Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 ... at the end of the day it saves you getting 3 points Owen Coyle must be a regular there then. Quote
floyd Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Don't try and drive how you think they want you to drive. You'll learn more from getting them to point out your errors. I've done one of these and it really helped my awareness of what's around me and picked up some great tips about improving my road positioning to enhance my journey rather than continuously accelerating and braking as you get too close to cars in front. It's good fun. Look at it as a refresher to your driving test. Quote
MickyD Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I think this one will be a classroom based talking session run by people who have never gone so much as an inch per hour above the posted limits. Quote
aberwhite Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Went on one in Cambridge a couple of years ago. Found it quite informative and rather enjoyed it. Quote
victor meldrew Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 i went on one at the arena 2 weeks ago. it is an eye opener as to how bad a driver you are. i drive for my job , and it makes you realise how selfish/ impatient you become. the difference between 30 and 35 mph over a mile is only 17 seconds. Quote
Cheese Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 the difference between 30 and 35 mph over a mile is only 17 seconds. Do 70 and you'll save shit loads of time. Quote
Boxie Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 My husband went on one a couple of years ago - gosh he was dull for the weeks after, telling me loads of stats around driving accidents etc .... soon wore off (watches his speed though now!) Quote
Ani Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I think this one will be a classroom based talking session run by people who have never gone so much as an inch per hour above the posted limits. I know your comment is tongue in cheek but they do also explain how much more likely you are to kill someone when you drive at 35 rather than 30. As meldrew talks about, average journey is about 5 miles so sticking to 30 rather than 35 gets you there about a minute later. Quote
Big City Girl Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I used to bomb about everywhere when I was younger (although never where you'd expect kids to run out). I'd been done for the 3rd time and took the Speed Awareness Course. Since then I've calmed down loads. I rarely go above the speed limit now. I feel a lot safer and it's saving me a bomb in petrol. HazzyinBolton Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Went on it today. I think everybody should go on one of these every now & then. Learned a few things, refreshed my memory about a few things I'd forgotten & I'll probably think a lot more about the way I drive now. Quote
Andydee Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Miss Dee has to go on one at the Arena and it says you have to take latest copy of the Highway Code. Any of you who have been confirm whether you do actually get refused if you haven't got one and where the f*%$ do you get one from? Andydee - last looked at a Highway Code in 1977!! Quote

athywhite1958 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 When I went they were lending copies to people, they certainly didn't ask me if I had a copy with me, but, would she be prepared to risk if for the sake of a couple of quid? Quote
jazza Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 If my license was clean (which it is) I would fuck the course off and take the points and fine Quote
athywhite1958 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I was on 6 so I had to take the course Quote
HomerJay Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I took the course and found it informative Quote
Traf Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I was on 6 so I had to take the course More than Coyle's got at the reebok. Quote
only1swanny Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Tell that to a courier doing 300 miles a day. I do multidrop. Speeding a no no. It's more about proper load planning. Quote
