HomerJay Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Pele "When Messi's scored 1,283 goals like me, when he's won three World Cups, we'll talk about it," Pele told French newspaper Le Monde? Quote

Mona Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I must admit I am old enough to remember a few greats, but this lad makes a mockery of the word skill. I love watching him, is it because he is small by today' s comparison of a footballer or just that he appears to thrive on doing what he loves? Total master craftsman Quote
chief wiggum Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Pele "When Messi's scored 1,283 goals like me, when he's won three World Cups, we'll talk about it," Pele told French newspaper Le Monde Nobody contributes more to the legend that is Pele than Pele himself! Pele scored all his non international goals in regional leagues in Brazil, where Robert Fleck would probably bagged a career 500. And he was part of three brilliant Brazil teams who would almost certainly have won without him. He will never give Messi credit because he's Argentininan. Pele never played in Europe, maybe thought he might be found out? When he's dragged an Italian pub team to two Seria A Championships and dragged a very average Argentina team to win a World Cup Messi can maybe be talked in the same breath as Diego Maradona, who was better than Pele, and anyone who cares to remove their head from their arse will agree with me. no balls Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I bet Messi can get a hard on no bother though! Quote
chief wiggum Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) I bet Messi can get a hard on no bother though! No doubt he can perform perfectly well, with help. Bit like Pele's international career Edited March 20, 2012 by chief wiggum Quote

Brazil goverment actually passed a law to keep Pele in brazil by the time it had passed only the MLS would take him (outside a manager role) Quote

Santos used to play the Euoprean Champions every year, and often destroyed them. Europe was not a million miles ahead due to TV and Sponsorship monies back then. Although, i do agree that Madona was better, and or the reasons you said. Messi will be better than him, he has 3 world cups left in him! Quote
Guest Frandsen08 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 messi is the best player i have ever seen, my dad agrees and so does my grandad. i think one day he will be universally accepted as the greatest player ever, he needs to do it at international level first though Quote

Maradona would have bagged as many goals as Messi if he'd played in an era when forwards get as much protection as they do now. When Italy played Argentina in the 1982 World Cup, Maradona was basically assaulted from first whistle to last by Claudio Gentile (nicknamed 'Gaddaffi'), regardless of whether he was actually had the ball or not.
