Leyther_Matt Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Didn't they say that some of the matches would be free?Yes but I suspect it'll be the dead rubbers towards the end of the group stage. I'm with BT internet so get them all free with an additional £3 a month for HD. Quote

No wonder they don't talk about it like they did in late 90's early 00's Saying that I'm not ready to join the athy colls bandwagon yet. Edited September 16, 2015 by tomski Quote

Mounts Kipper Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Arsenal are a fookin joke. You can throw united and city in as well, the Europeans must be pissing themselves these clubs are paying way over the top for middling quality players, long may it continue. Quote

Good chance that we could lose the fourth champions league place to the Italians soon Malcolm - what needs to happen? Quote
gonzo Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Good chance that we could lose the fourth champions league place to the Italians soon Malcolm - what needs to happen? They were saying on TS it's unlikely to happen unless the Italians have a big fuck of stonking season in champs league. Or words to that effect. Quote
frank_spencer Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Arsenal are a fookin joke.Am I right in thinking that Cech was the only signing Arsenal made for the first team this summer? Quote
gonzo Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Am I right in thinking that Cech was the only signing Arsenal made for the first team this summer? Yep. And he was rested last night. The whole world can see what they need to become a proper force and they have gazillions in the bank. Yet wenger is that arrogant he thinks he can do it with what he has. Weak as Piss bastards. Quote

Think they need to spend 2-300 million to become a force and even then it's not guaranteed, certainly not with Wenger in charge. I'm loving these prem teams spending millions and achieving very little in Europe. Quote
gonzo Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Bloody hell mounts do they need a new ground as well? Quote

I'm loving these prem teams spending millions and achieving very little in Europe. TBH Citeh have had incredibly hard groups in 2012 and 2013 (Real Madrid. Bayern and Dortmund) and the last two years have faced Barca in the last 16 in 2014 and 2015. Thought they deserved a draw on Tuesday, got undone by a couple of unstoppable strikes. Quote
tomski Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 It's one game let's see. I love this scare mongoring about losing a place to the Italians, unless you support a top 6 club who gives a shit. If they fail in the group stages again, it's time to admit we (English teams) are simply just shite compared to the rest of Europe. These things happen in cycles anyway, I suppose it's just surprising because of the premier leagues wealth. Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Bloody hell mounts do they need a new ground as well? I'm going off what City have spent as mentioned last night arsenal need top centre half top midfield general and at least 1 top striker not much change from 200 million there. Quote
Zico Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 If they fail in the group stages again, it's time to admit we (English teams) are simply just shite compared to the rest of Europe. These things happen in cycles anyway, I suppose it's just surprising because of the premier leagues wealth. not really, it's only been 3 years since we had a finalist/winner and correct, though the league's wealth isn't really relevant, it's the teams that win it, and the last few winners all had cash to burn city aren't where they think they should be, but clearly they have a long way to go, there's no instant success in the CL, and you need a top class manager or at least a team to compliment them, and whilst they have some top class players, Pelligrini is not a top class manager - they just don't have the pedigree whereas pretty much every winner of the last 20 years, do Quote
MalcolmW Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Good chance that we could lose the fourth champions league place to the Italians soon Malcolm - what needs to happen? The first point to note is that 4 CL places are guaranteed for next season, as the number of places is defined before the league season starts. Last season the English coefficient fell from 84.748 to 80.391 and the Italian one rose from 66.938 to 70.510. But the season 2010-11, which has dropped out of the calculation to be replaced by this season's results, included 18.357 points for England and only 11.571 for Italy. Thus the position before this seasons results are added is England on 62.034 and Italy on 58.939. So a similar swing for this season as happened last season would indeed effect a changeover and drop England to 3 places from 2017-18. Moreover England have an extra team this time because of the Fair Play set up, so the accumulated points for this season will be divided by 8 rather than 7. Southampton matched Hull City's ignominious performance of last season (2.5 pts), and West Ham have weighed in with 3.5. Sadly Sampdoria crashed of the Europa with only 1 point, whereas last season every Italian team reached at least 12. So it is certainly feasible. If the CL teams finish second in their groups they will face a group winner next, and could be eliminated with a modest score, but if they are third dropping to the EL gives the opportunity to gain high points. English dropouts have not usually performed well, but Italian ones seem to give the EL a go. Quote
frank_spencer Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Just adding another decent striker would improve manyoo and arsenal massively. At least united added the potential of Martial. Arsenal have less forward options than even our paltry choices. Quote
