Went to the papershop daily on the corner for 15 years......still couldn't think of the name until I googled it 😂😂

I found it sad that for all his goalscoring exploits at Lads Club and then becoming a pro that Paul Moulden was better known in Bolton for his chippy.

I vaguely remember her taking me in there one Saturday morning

Dad must've been working Friday night

It was either there or I'm pretty sure she worked at another place, in my mind more Bolton, and then they moved to Farnworth

She told me a yank actor, maybe Gregory Peck visited once

No idea why

They could have been down near Coe St in Bolton, or over on Crescent Road.

Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane gents, very enjoyable indeed.

However...I shall leave a teaser for you.....two chippy's on Deane Church Lane.....one is Rigby's and still there, the other is a great Chinese.....but.....what was the Chinese one called when it was in English hands ?

And for the Mount St Joseph puffs on here.......what was the chippy called near the papershop adjacent to Park View Road/Street..Willows Park.......almost opposite Melbourne Road.....

T,other chippy on Deane church lane was Bald Affro's

M&S was at one end of the block, Burtons at the other with three shop fronts between. Centre was the entry to Lower Nags Head, another was Dunne &Co and can’t remember the third one.

One of the shops was a Camera shop. An independant one I think, not like Mathers or Jessops. Can't remember the name though, maybe Fieldings or something like that ?

Could it have been Wilding's ?

That makes more sense becaue I now have in my head that Fieldings was maybe an Estate Agents, but there was definately a Camera Shop as I bought my first SLR Camera (second hand) from there in about 1981. there was also a Camera Shop (maybe Mathers) next to or close to the old Famous Army Stores on Bradshawgate.

, yeah the Chinese women was little and fat , her head was massive with a see through afro.

She had a very Bolton accent though and was the first chippy i knew about that opened on a Sunday but for some reason they weren't allowed to sell fish.

Consulted my mate who's the A-Z of Bolton.

Wildings was second to the end of the block directly facing Woolworths not the next block up where the Lower Nags was......, the Midland bank was on the corner which in turn became HSBC, adjacent to M&S on Mealhouse Lane.

My minds lost with this. I had it i my head that the 519 bus stop was outside the Camera shop and I never remember it being opposite Woolworths. It shows how fucked your brain gets over the years :)

It wasn’t a photography shop at Lower Nags.

In my memory it went M&S, Hepworth, Lower Nags Head, Dunne & Co., Burtons.

i agree with you Mick but i know for a fact that between Dunne and burtons probably where Santander is now was one of the first pizzza chain companies in the UK . Think it was  pizzaland and it sold halves of lager and wine  about 1978 until it shut in the  80s

Was pizzaland not on the opposite side

Poss same block greggs is in but the corner nearer curchgate?

I think pizzaland was owned by a fuck off big group...maybe Whitbread?

I thought it was on the opposite side too. Became Pizzahut eventually

A Google tells me Whitbread owned pizza hut and bought pizzaland

Pretty much killing the brand

I agree pizzaland was probably the first exposure to pizza for most of us

Davardis in Walkden for me, early to mid 70s. Still going I believe.

Pizzaland was on the corner of the walk down to the Market Place. Deansgate & Market St. Left hand side. Was definitely still going in early 90s.

Used to drive from Harwood to Walkden for a Divardi’s pizza. Not sure if it was the first pizza I ever had though, I’m fairly sure my mum may have bought some with Teflon base that the tomato sauce slid off taking the cheese with it.
