What part of China were you in Sweep? And how did you find it over there? I'm thinking more as a visitor/tourist than for business?

Or didn't you really get much of a chance to have a look around. I've always fancied going but have heard mixed reports!

Ditto - been watching race across the world on telly - China looks a top drawer country on that at least.  Great infrastructure and amazing scenery.

Great show

I find the old race thing tedious but good to see how the contestants cope and, as you say, great visuals

I actually actually spent the week in Shenzhen. I'd not recommend it as a tourist. Further north, towards Shanghai is decent though, I've been there several times. Hong Kong (about 30 minutes train from Shenzhen is really cool though, and well worth a visit)

I'd recommended, if visiting as a tourist, flying into HK, crossing to Shenzhen and then working your way up to Shanghai via their public transport system, which is amazing. Each province is different from the next, it's quite interesting

Good (r/e how the Americans you spoke to are feeling).  Zero sympathy for anyone who voted for the lying grifting orange buffoon.  I’m surprised anyone is surprised.  They knew what they were going to get.

Yes, but, and here is the issue, they said it wasn't possible to vote for the other guy, not because he was overly bad, but because he was clearly very ill. I did point out that it's amazing how they only had those two to pick from (and then Harris, obviously) - one bloke laughed and said no worse than us choosing Boris Johnson. He had a point.

How is it for getting around if you don't speak Mandarin/Cantonese?

And is the food alright if you don't enjoy eating things that are still moving? 😁

I reckon his first paragraph was written in Chinese-English.

Like reading some DIY instructions.

I've just returned from a business trip in China. The Americans I met, seem to be absolutely furious with him, as clearly their businesses are being fucked over. I said to one of them, what did they expect when he said, before voting he would bring tariffs in.....they all said that they didn't actually believe he would (as he lies about everything), and the average American still thinks that it's the country of origin that pays the tariff, not the importer and that's because of how it's still, to this day, being spun. All the US people I spoke to admitted they voted for Trump, as they thought he would be good for business, all of them concede it's been absolutely awful so far.

One guy, went as far as to say that if something isn't sorted soon, then he's in big trouble, his market is pretty much 90% US & Canada. He designs and manufactures 100% of his goods in Shenzhen, for him to do that in the US, the price would easily double, and it would take over 12 months to actually build a facility even remotely capable of producing the scopes he manufactures

All of them, said they would be very surprised if the US does not hit a recession within the next year or so......although, clearly, these individuals need China, so they're very emotive about it.

The Chinese, whilst worried about a downturn in business, all basically said that they can live without the US, and one factory I deal with, has actually been incentivised to give preferential terms to EU and ASIAPAC customers rather than the US. At present for them, the EU is getting the best deals, and this is being given high level financial support within their province.

Whilst we're on about China.....I saw loads of empty property (apartment blocks) whislt out there, apparently they have a housing surplus, no official figures, but my contact told me they have over 1KK empty apartments in Shenzhen. More dwellings than people.....

They're also pretty much cashless as well, which is excellent. I took some cash out there with me, and honestly, they look at you like you're a wrong 'un if you offer cash, and refuse to take it. Even just buying  a bottle of water

Nobody gives a shit about this, mate. The question is, what mood is George Clooney in?

The language barrier is difficult, but there is a cool app where you speak into your phone, and then it translates it for you, they can then reply, and it translates back to English. I've had to use it loads.....or,just find anybody under 30,and they mostly seem to speak English.

All the train network signage is written in dual language, and the public address systems are dual language as well, so travel is actually easy

The food is great, absolutely no  problems with that, especially in the main cities.

50% will never happen.  I’m sure the EU are not surprised by a predictable manoeuvre by a narcissistic tinpot bully.

He's already announced a bit of a row back, it's now delayed until 9th July......

I think that’s my fault, having the audacity to call Trumpy a “narcissistic tinpot bully” on the previous page. I thought Bolty had me on ignore though so surprised this has registered 🤔
