Wouldn't mind a similar investigation and action on some of the NHS drugs purchasing.

Suggestions abound over huge overpayment for some basic stuff.

I am sure I read a while back that the NHS pays far less for most medication compared to the US, @kent_white might know more.

It pretty much sums up MAGA It's very insular

The population of USA is less than the rest of the world

It's usa v rest of the world

He will isolate them from the rest of the world unless there's a good deal to be had

This is why some medicines are harder to get in the UK. If you have a limited supply the NHS is bound to pay the amount agreed so the manufacturers will sell to the other countries first.

That may or not be the case.

Not really the point I was making.

What the USA pays is their business.

There are loads of quickly accessible articles from official bodies that highlight NHS overpayments.

Can't say what it's like now, but the NHS was also known for being a bad (slow) payer of invoices, which won't stand them in good stead with suppliers.

Yeah we pay much much less. Because of loads of arrangements we've got in place.

We actually spend much less as a percentage of the total cost of the NHS on meds as a result (compared to other health systems).

There's the odd medication that we've occasionally paid over the odds for - but that's very much the exception rather than the rule. And there are so many checks and balances in place that it's usually big news when this isn't the case.

Our biggest problem is probably prescribing stuff like paracetamol which is miles cheaper to buy OTC at ASDA. Or continuing to deliver meds to patients at home who then don't take them and hoard them all up without actually using them. I've been in patient's homes on nursing visits that have looked like a branch of Boots.

But overall - we do really well with the prices we pay for meds.

It's almost like us NHS managers know what we're doing, and aren't just sucking at the tax payers teat and attending pride marches 😁

To be fair though - whilst these things are a concern. They are waaaaaaaaaaaay down the list of priorities at the moment.

And will likely get worse when we pot 50% of the managers in the next couple of months.

2 of those articles are from 2015, and 1 is from 2007. Can't see the linkedin one as I'm not on it.

I’m all for health care providers and ultimately patients not being ripped off for the price of medicines.  The US in particular is exorbitant so fair play to Trumpy if he can fix this and make more medicines more affordable for more people.

The elephant in the room though is the cost of developing new medicines.  If you take into account the cost of those that fail in development then it’s ~ $4 billion to bring one new drug successfully to market.  Not cheap.  So, if drug companies make less money on licenced drugs then begs the question can they still afford to invest in new ones ….

My old man has more Codrydamol than any man could wish to sell on central drive.

He likes to make a big fuck off mess then thinks he looks good clearing it all up.

Apparently so, I don't know how true that is though.

The leader of the most powerful country on earth has put this on public media.

To repeat, this man leads the most powerful nation on earth, and has been rattled by a singer saying nasty things about him in Manchester.

Or preferably don't and just fuck off. I'd rather listen to an assembly of this sites screechers torturing Flower Of Scotland than that crime against music.

I’m surprised.  Like Trumpy I’d have thought you were more of a YMCA man.
