And the same people that are lapping Musk up tend to be the same people who were hell bent on UK sovereignty and lack of outside interference from foreign powers. But now seem quite happy with a South African with US citizenship sticking his oar in. 

And the ones who imagine the media is 'left leaning' when the world's richest man is piping off about Tommy Robinson on his own social media channel. 

They also tend to be the ones who were furious when Barrack Obama passed comment on Brexit (even though it turned out he was entirely correct).

Aye - we are in some sort of parallel universe now I think. The same people who described Rupert Lowe as one of the most disgusting individuals to ever own a football club and waged a public war with him are now the same ones saying he should be the next PM. I don’t know quite how we got here but denying reality seems like a hell of a drug.

Don’t know about others but the more Musk sticks his oar in the more supportive I become of Starmer / our government.  I’m sure I’m not the only one. So, keep going Elon my son 😂.  Eventually the penny may drop with him that cyber bullying and gaslighting doesn’t work on this side of the pond. Rather the opposite.

I think we’d all like that to be true but I’m not convinced it is. Look at the number of people who used to be entirely rational now living in a social media bubble believing and lapping up absolute conspiracy theory nonsense.

It’s not confined to America sadly I don’t think we are immune. People live on there daily and Musk is now through the algorithms exposing them solely to absolute guff on a constant basis.

You only need see people endorsing those who a few years ago they hated to see how powerful this stuff is. Not for everyone. But a critical mass. And the danger is that the media now treat it as news. So it has an even wider reach. A decade ago what someone said on Twitter was not news. Was largely ignored outside of social media warriors. Now it’s international news within minutes.

Fair/good points.  Worryingly.  Not sure what’s best then tbh - to report and counter by highlighting the lies, or completely ignore.  Probably not the latter else the gullible believe this unchallenged false narrative is the reality, so we need to counter with (true) facts and evidence whilst therefore running the risk of giving this nonsense the oxygen of publicity.

I don’t think there is a good counter. And I think a lot of people who have criticised the governments comms don’t yet realise this isn’t the 1990’s. There is no control of the narrative anymore. If they ignore it - it’s less newsworthy but never countered. If they address it, it becomes more newsworthy and those that are subject to it won’t be swayed. 

Neither strategy works well. I’d just start legal action against anyone who is creating or spreading libellous material. I’d not make much fuss. I’d just do it. Unless people realise that you can’t post whatever online without consequences and that free speech doesn’t come without individual responsibility then nothing will change.

As Peston’s just said on News at Ten over here, these views have to be challenged or else gullible folks may not know they are being misled.  I work in the healthcare industry and can see the parallels with anti-vaxers over recent years shouting loudly and spreading dangerous untruths. Such people need to be calmly challenged and asked to provide vetted evidence to support their claims.  Oddly enough they usually can’t.

Funny 😂.  Against my better judgement I’ll waste a bit more of my time then, to set the record straight.

- I’m not a socialist (in fact I am a fellow brexiteer, who did vote for Boris in the past, before he let the country down with his constant self-serving lies.  Good riddance.).

- socialism in theory is not hypocritical, but you already know that.  Granted the practical realisation can be, but that’s the fault of self-serving leaders (usually male narcissists).  Just the same therefore as Trump, Milei, Orban etc. who manipulate folk to vote for them by amplifying their fears and then exploit them once in power for their own gain.

I spend the vast majority of my working life trying to make it easier and smoother for people to receive vaccinations for preventable illnesses. 

This year - the public have chosen not to have the flu vaccine. Not just in Bolton but all over the UK. As a direct consequence we've now got record levels of flu cases in hospitals across the UK and people are suffering and dying unnecessarily. 

What you're saying is absolutely right. And I dread to think what's going to happen once RFK Jr starts his bollocks about MMR again.
