Just listening to PMQs. Can anybody explain, in simple terms, how Kemi Badenoch can have the audacity to try and drag Labour over the coals for not having a national enquiry into this Child Grooming stuff. Is there a reason why her party didn't do anything regarding this?

I mean her party did they commissioned an independent inquiry which they responded to directly, praised and then ignored all the recommendations.

Anyone who says ‘we need a new inquiry’ having been part of a government who said the inquiry was robust, thorough and the recommendations would be enacted (but weren’t) is a disgrace and has nothing to offer.

I suppose it doesn't really matter. The debate will get whittled down into 10 seconds sound bites on TV tonight and people will just draw conclusions that support what they already thought - either

a) Keir Starmer is a closet paedophile/and or apologist

b) The Conservative Party were useless during their time on office

Not about support, one of these statements is evidently true.

The fact some people will argue that the earth is flat doesn't make it so. The same applies here.

They have form for this type of thing though (re.Illegal immigration). The fact that immigration levels reached record levels under their watch in 2023 and their Rwanda policy sent only three volunteers back at a cost of £700 million has not prevented them criticising Labour policy after six months.

Because they knew they were going to lose the election, they were infighting and it wasn't personally politically expedient for any of the cabinet.

Now they are trying to decry a government who are actually taking steps to legislate to ensure there are greater protections.

In other news, I'm liking the affordable school uniform policy that's been announced - and not before time. Nice to see things being enacted to simply and directly help families.

I think that. You think that. The flat earthers don't.

This is still utterly ridiculous and scandalous in equal measure

The irony of the grooming gangs furore is that the far right are basically asking for all people to be treated equally regardless of colour or religion. I reckon we can all get behind that.

The right: we want everyone to be treated equally regardless of colour or religion.

The left: we agree

Centre: us too

Government: righty-ho then, that's what we'll do.

The far right: Whoa, hang on a minute...

The right have been in power in western countries almost continually since 1980. We’ve not had a left wing government certainly not in the UK or US in that time. Right wing Thatcherite neoliberal economics has prevailed. Thatcher and Reagan set the template. And the thing that has failed us is those economics. Late stage capitalism is the inevitable result as billionaires hoard wealth and everyone else becomes gradually poorer. There isn’t any other option because shareholders who are no longer the captains of industry spreading wealth round that thatcher imagined demand lines on charts go up ever more steeply. And what does that mean? More profit. More revenue. Less costs.  And these shareholders often aren’t even from the country those businesses operate in.

We’ve had a major financial crash caused by greed of many of these institutions and the fallout from that has crippled economies especially those who persevered with the right wing orthodoxy and cut spending and investment - stagnating their economies.

This is not that disimilar to the fallout following the Great Depression and the rise of extremist parties on both sides but predominantly and most famously the far right politics. They of course blamed the left, the establishment and everyone else then. And will do so now but it’s nonsense that anyone with half a brain knows is bollocks.

Musk et al want control because they want unfettered ability to hoard more money. They couldn’t entirely buy centre right governments so had to move to the extreme right who knew they needed a lot of help to win power.

I don’t see this resolving in any way other than major international tragedy. Maybe a  war. Maybe a genocide. Maybe both and lots else on top. But after it happens the generations behind us and to come will look back on it in a very similar way that we look back on 1930’s Europe and wonder how on earth it was allowed to happen.

Jesus, bet you're fun at parties.

That's the thing about facts or the truth. You can think what you want. It doesn't make it so.

It's the thing that brings all dictators down in the end.

Indeed.

Sat on the grooming report.

Didn't pay the Post Office compo

Didn't sort the WASPI issue

Didn't process immigrants

Aside from feathering their own nests during COVID, what did they actually do in recent years?

Told people they could weigh things in pounds and ounces, even though they already did and nobody ever tried to stop them from doing so.

Tried to start culture wars. Claimed credit for building hospitals that didn’t exist.

Finally saved us from the evil clutches of the European Union.

Oh, and they told us that we didn't have to have seven bins.

I've got six, but two are green bins.

Makes a change from London and having none and just dragging bin bags out at 5 every week

Looking forward to that Brexit benefit. Sick of asking for 568mls of beer.

To be fair it’s all I know. I’ve asked for pints in so many pubs but they say ‘only do 568ml mate’ so frustrating
