Not sure what that has to do with immigrants coming over here in record numbers? But try google

It was in my post that you responded to earlier and is a factor in creating migrants across Europe. Do keep up.

This doesn't address the argument - it just dismisses the argument based on the fact that they come from an AI as opposed to their merits.

I get that you'd prefer a human source - but these are established facts that can be verified by looking at official documents. Asking AI is just quicker. And it isn't really any different than looking something up on the internet or reading a book (using whatever colour scheme you'd like) and then forming an opinion from it. You still need to use your critical reasoning skills to evaluate the information AI provides.

So setting aside where the information came from, what do you think about the content (and not the source).

It hurts my eyes, seriously.
Also, seriously, I’m still reading through the Sunday papers. There is a lot of news out there to digest. Lady Gaga could have been killed in Brazil!

Here's what AI reckons in answer to the questions (or solutions) that have been posed.

My phone has plenty of power without resorting to archaic forms of communication. One charge per day. I’m also trying hard to take my information from human forms.  I also like to shop locally rather than Amazon etc.  (I had to buy a book from Waterstones online as it wasn’t available locally, white pages, black text) It’s being delivered Tuesday.

I like bookshops, especially second hand ones. No time for on line stuff, I need to browse and study the pages... I complete at least one Times or Guardian crossword every day using a pencil.

We're downsizing at the moment, I'm going to have to take hundreds of books to the charity shop (but I did buy a couple more today)

I have an analogue brain in a digital world... which will shortly become a quantum world... scary

I love bookshops. My son was over from Oz and we all went into Manc. Wife and son went clothes shopping, I went to Waterstones. Browsing for nothing in particular and came across a brilliant book purely by chance. The second in the series will be delivered next Tuesday.

We then met up in a craft beer place and then had a nice meal before the train home.

That, is life.

Have you ever visited Barter Books in Alnwick?

We had something similar in Lincoln (Harlequin) but it has sadly gone

Ha, was just about to say you need to go to Barter Books.

It's very good, isn't it 👍

Nope but I do miss this place. Apart from my books for study and recreation, my son’s whole library of Mr Men (when you have the complete collection, it says ‘my mister men library’ on the spine) and other books were bought there.

I recall they are credited with rediscovering the Keep Calm and Carry On poster.

I could spend all day in there

My retirement plan was always to own a second hand bookshop but unfortunately the world has changed

Yep. Same here. I then realised that the chances of Julia Roberts randomly coming into the shop was remote. Especially in Bolton. 😊

As I said, weird. 😊

Do you have any books like this?

No - but I quite like it on screen. And it helps save my eyes when I'm reading at night

Struggled through that. 😞

How long before Claude is posting on here? How long before the Bots are taking over WW? I think we may have a couple already! It’s only a matter of time.

Id genuinely be interested to see a break down of the numbers by country of those on the boats and all this shacked up in hotels etc

Edit

Found this

https://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/stay-informed/explainers/top-facts-from-the-latest-statistics-on-refugees-and-people-seeking-asylum/#:~:text=In 2024%2C six in 10,still waiting for a decision

In 2024, six in 10 of small boat arrivals were from just five nationalities – Afghan (17%), Syrian (13%), Iranian (12%), Vietnamese (11%) and Eritrean (10%).

Aye me too

Good link anyway. Many of those will be fleeing for valid reasons.

You’ve got folk on the left peddling they’re all victims of war etc.

Then you’ve got folk on the right peddling shite about them all being military aged men. Milking the system & invading, blah blah bullshit.

As often the way, the reality will be somewhere in the middle. And the large majority won’t be criminals.

Either way we need a managed system where we can choose who to help & who to employ. If Labour can make good progress towards this then we won’t have to put up with incompetence populists like Reform.

They're not quite the same thing - so I think it will be a while! 😁

Something like 15% of comment on Facebook and X is bot generated. Which is crazy to comprehend. And they tend to have a disproportionately high level of response and discourse because what they spout tends to be intentionally inflammatory. Although I have got better at spotting them over time. And It's also a big part of the reason why I tend not to use those platforms any longer. Facebook is particularly is awful nowadays. Just algorithms designed to make you interact with content. Even if that is to argue. Which 99% of the time is what Facebook 'debates' are.

Something like 50% of all internet traffic is bots. Although they're not always nefarious. More like web crawlers for indexing search sites etc.

And if that means that I can access Peruvian Granny Scat at a fraction of the time it might usually have taken then I'm all for it! 😁
