I can support reform, and want the boats to stop 

whilst simultaneously take the rental fees to house the lads falling out of those very boats

HMOs have existed for donkeys for folk with nowhere else to go.

It's only now they don't want boat folk in hotels because of the optics they are now sending them to rentals/hmos.

I did some work with Serco 5 or 6 years ago. As immigration numbers were going up they were scrambling round for more accommodation. In Manchester at the time there were lovely 3 storey houses around Longsight, Levenshulme and Fallowfield that had been unwanted for years.

Serco (along with the Uni) started doing lots of deals with the landlords. Previously they couldn't give them away, suddenly the owners were quids in, getting their houses turned into HMOs and get 100% of the agreed rent. I knew a few Serco staff who bought houses on buy to let deals just to take advantage of the opportunity. I suppose it's no different to landlords in rural or seaside areas going down the more lucrative Airbnb route.
