Burndens Bogs
Horseflies are horrible bastards and there are loads near where i live - i'm guaranteed a bite a week minimum from Jun till Aug. They will follow you half a mile just to take a chunk out of you, totally unprovoked. Easy to kill though, once they've bitten you.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 18, 2018 Author Site Supporter Share Posted July 18, 2018 Apparently horse flies have saw like mouth parts which means that they hurt more when they bite. Oh, and like mozzies, it's only the females that bite!
SatanGreavsie
Oh, and like Hag Fold, it's only the females that bite! The big colourful butterflies like this one (Peacock) are ace - by all accounts they are so territorial they'll even take on small birds

Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 23, 2018 Author Site Supporter Share Posted July 23, 2018 Anyone noticed wasps going through their carnivorous phase? Attacking flies all over the place
MancWanderer
Bumblebees absolute favourite. Have filled the garden with plants that they like. Dopey bastards are lovely to watch Hate wasps with a passion after two got stuck in my shirt sleeve in a beer garden in Middleton a few years ago. Christ that hurt. That said, horseflies beat everything. Still have scars on my legs after a round of golf a couple of years ago. So painful at the time I googled it. Whereas wasps, mozzies, etc just basically stick a needle in you, these fuckers have jaws like a rusty saw and literally rip your skin apart

e2e4
I hate woodlice, horrible little bastards. I like bees, though wasps can fuck off. questioning what woodlice are to the know-alls that point out that spiders arent insects was always funny. desert
wasps are flying bastards, i hold them in the same regard as traffic wardens ladybirds are my favorite. proper useful in the garden too.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 25, 2018 Author Site Supporter Share Posted July 25, 2018 Sadly, wasps are also useful in the garden as they take out other insects. Trouble is they take out us to. On the wire less earlier, a bee farmer saying there's been a couple of outbreaks of a particular hornet which have been put down quickly. They wait outside honey bee nests and eat them all. Big bastards.
