Could easily have done that last night with Delaney, Nsiala & Bryan all starting.

I understand why he’s not going 3 at back as we’ve little defensive midfield strength and he’s using Bryan in that role. Be interesting to see 3 at back when we have the right players available. Now weve actually seen Fleming play a few games I’ve never understood the thought process behind this, especially so soon. Chicksen is quicker, gets up and down more and is a much better crosser of the ball. He’s at least on a par defensively too. If we’re paying less for Fleming and we’d accepted our fate for this season, fair enough. I’d go and get Chicksen for next season without a doubt though. More than capable of being the best full back in League Two from what I saw of him.

Surely 3 at the back means a defensive minded midfielder is less necessary, last night you could easily go with: Matthews Emmanuel, Nsiala, Delaney, Bryan, Fleming Hamilton, Murphy Crawford Politic, Dodoo

No, I'm saying with 3 at the back the midfield shouldn't be as defensive minded.

You can have 9 at the back if the midfield is walked through and runners let go you're in trouble. The most important role in the modern game is the space between the midfield and defence. Its the area you absolutely have to fill, ideally with some quality and someone who can read the game adequately. Sam was way ahead of the curve here with Warhurst, Campo, Hierro all playing that role superbly.

It looked a bit more than that I thought, but I don't think I've noticed a figure given as low as that for a league game weve played in any of the time I've been going so at least as far back as early 90s. Though a special mention to 1,987 in the League Cup at Wimbledon in October 1992.

Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 11, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted March 11, 2020 Remember going to Macc to watch a game - presumably that one. Ended up, completely inadvertently, in the home end like plenty of others. Police came and took us to the other end. The official figures will be inaccurate though, as loads piled in over the fence at the back of the pub iirc.

Chester had 2 season's there, I think the first was a 2-2 draw but with it being the novelty factor, I think the crowd will have been higher than 2,000 2nd season, no novelty factor and if I remember correctly, we weren't doing very well at the time either (surprise, surprise). I think both were Oct/Nov time too
