Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted November 11, 2019 Site Supporter Share Posted November 11, 2019 Saw this reported yesterday. Is there anything more scummy than lighting fireworks while a crowd of people, young and old, remember those lost. An absolute cunt.
Roger_Dubuis
This was a crackpot who fired a rocket from a pub window over the gathering in Eccles. The Eccles crowd responded by throwing traffic cones at the window and trying to climb up the wall to get to him.He received a few digs as the police escorted him out. Blondi
Think there is also a video of a young girl setting fire to a poppy on social media, can't believe how low some people will stoop.

Quick observation and don't take this as my nlack of support of the work the Royal British Legion do: If someone set fire to a daffodil which represents the charity McMillen Nurses, or a little loop of ribbon representing Aids charities would anyone be up in arms? Nobody ever said, "Why aren't you wearing a little blue Forget-Me-Not flower to show your support for alzheimers research?" Poppies must be the only charity symbol which folk not only notice when folk don't wear one, they also pass comment; "How come you're not wearing a poppy?" I get what you're saying, but the Poppy Appeal has been going for so much longer, it's now part of the fabric of our society.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted November 11, 2019 Author Site Supporter Share Posted November 11, 2019 Remembrance is about those who actually laid down their lives. Loads of good causes obviously, but I suppose the poppy is a simple of the ultimate sacrifice. Can understand the emotion behind it.

Site Supporter Winchester White Posted November 11, 2019 Site Supporter Share Posted November 11, 2019 The poppy is totally different. It is not juat 'a charity' . I do however, have no issue with those that do not wish to wear one.

bwfcfan5
Wearing a poppy is a personal choice and nobody should be vilified for choosing not to do so for whatever reason. I think that like most things the real meaning of the symbol and the day is oft lost as its appropriated by people wishing to push agendas. Would someone in Ireland have historical good reasons to hate British soldiers? Obviously. So it makes sense that generations there have that view.
