As explained elsewhere earlier this week, the UK approving first is nothing to do with us being in or out of the EU. Denmark are announcing their full approval tomorrow (apparently) and they're still in the EU

Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted December 6, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted December 6, 2020 Refrigeration manufacturers have been producing extra equipment as a priority for the storage of these vaccines. Place that supplies my dog food had to have his bespoke freezer delivery delayed whilst units were made for the nhs.

We supply a company who make these lab freezers, they can go down to something like -86C (+/- 1C) - they're loving it at the minute, they can't make them quick enough, and they're selling them at almost five times their usual prices, which is great news for them. Aye- there was a photo this morning with the vaccine in storage in these freezers somewhere. All kept quiet though.
Nowack
Having spoken to a nurse involved in the rollout I think the alternative vaccine, which doesn`t require the specialist storage, will make this one obsolete relatively quickly. Doses can only be mixed, given and recorded by one nurse in order to limit liability. They come in batches of just under 1000 which all need to be given within a 5 day slot so highways etc. need to be involved to control traffic. It is a bit of a logistical nightmare by all accounts and certainly not as easy as giving the flu jab.

Only 4 'transitions' allowed by the mhra, which restricts the number of journeys and amount of handling. JVT also mentioned that the packs cannot be split (mhra again) at the moment, but hoped they would allow it soon enough. Presumably needs many new freezers all over the place to make it more feasible. Oxford one will make a big difference if approved.

By the 16th, London could be the worst! It’s possible that in 11 days time, the NW could be the lowest and London the highest! A decision on our rating needs to be made before the 16th. The actual state of play will be much better for us here in the NW. we’ve been in this tiered system longer than everyone and the improvements are there for all to see. It’ll only get better. If they wait till the 16th, it could be embarrassing for the government if London is so much worse. Making an earlier decision will satisfy everyone. Just my opinion of course. Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted December 6, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted December 6, 2020 London seems to have been hovering around a similar figure over a few weeks. Meanwhile we're plummeting. Be good to see what our hospital occupancy rates are like- hopefully they've started to drop and we can look at tier 2. If not, then cant see it happening yet. Site Supporter Spider Posted December 6, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted December 6, 2020 The government wil simply say that the suppression of the virus is vital to protect the nhs Cant risk it going back up etc We’re tier 3 Until the 16th and I’ll be amazed if it’s not held there until new year

Would be no surprise if government ducked the 16th & pushed it back to January to keep London open.
