fatolive Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 I was speaking to someone today, they are a project manager , her current project is ensuring logistics so majority of groups are vaccinated by end of Feb. “the next time you are in a football ground will be to get a jab from an army medic and there’ll be more people there than your used to being a Bolton fan “ was a response to my question of how are you going to manage that . just what I was told , I have no idea, be some operation that but seemingly large scale plans according to her. Assuming it’s partly to help the NHS through Winter, partly to tackle the wave of recent anti vaxers It’s a virus that kills hundreds of thousands every single year, millions some years! It will kill more than Covid over our life team easily. If vulnerable folk stop having the winter flu vaccine to the same levels those deaths will increase dramatically Covid and flu are very similar viruses, let’s hope Covid doesn’t mutate and become another Winter flu strain that we end up tackling it forever more Quote

Looked at some who report that had flu at around .1 % I suppose different flus might have slightly different rates in fairness. I also had differing numbers for covid depending upon measuring methods, but they were above 1. So certainly an order of magnitude greater. Quote

Aye, from the below website: The USA’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does publish estimates of the number of flu cases annually, including estimates for the number of hospitalisations and the number of deaths. The number of cases has ranged from nine million to 45 million a year, and the number of deaths ranged from 12,000 to 61,000. These figures suggest that over the past decade in the United States, the percentage of flu cases that resulted in hospitalisation has consistently been between 1% and 2%, and the percentage of cases that resulted in death has been between 0.1% and 0.2%. https://fullfact.org/health/coronavirus-compare-influenza/ Quote

Fair enough I assume the Winter flu vaccine has helped bring it down to 0.1%? If you have vaccinated the vulnerable then the death rate will reduce Similarly, once the Covid vaccine has been given to the vulnerable over the coming weeks, the death rate % will also massively reduce. Thousands of younger and middle age people will still test positive but the death toll will come down because it won’t be the vulnerable who get it Be interesting to see how the mortality rate changes next year with a vaccine Quote
