Sit on you both and keep you there till you can agree about something..

That’s good as I agree with peely on most stuff to do with this virus so my pain will be short lived. 😁

This was referenced in today's briefing by Chris Whitty, I think;

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/apr/30/coronavirus-deaths-how-does-britain-compare-with-other-countries

but my cold, statistical approach is to wait until the end of the year, and the years after that, when we can count the excess deaths. Until then, this grim contest won’t produce any league tables we can rely on.

John Newton on testing

obviously, not everyone will agree this expert input, but....

https://healthmedia.blog.gov.uk/2020/04/30/a-testing-target-why-does-the-100k-target-matter/

It will be used to drive extensive contact tracing to control any new infections, help us keep patients and staff safe in hospitals and care services, and to tell us with some precision how the virus has spread across the country. This means that we can identify who may have been in contact with someone infected, and prevent them from passing in on further, driving down transmission of the virus

The infection was entering the exponential growth phase. At this point access to limitless testing would have made no difference.

its the same virus now as it was before. I dont get how mass testing and tracing  is good at keeping the infection spread low now, but wasnt before?

Maybe they'll have an explanation one day

Perhaps that's it?

Perhaps more to do with the capacity available to do whatever?

God knows mate. I bet if we have another peak they wont stop testing and tracing. Too late now anyway.

Theres a not bad documentary on Netflix about it. Just watching one about Chicago Bulls and M Jordan now, is decent. He said basically the whole team were coke head weed smokers when he joined

Tbf if we had a team on here I think that would pretty much sum a lot of  us up

Yes. We didn't have the ability to do it before it kicked off seriously. So came up with methods to cope accordingly.

Now those are having some beneficial effects, keep that testing going up as we look at relaxing the lockdown.

I was pleasantly surprised to see 81000 done yesterday. Would imagine they'll get pretty close to their aim.

Maybe not ideal, but necessary under the circumstances. All will be revealed eventually.

I drink Yorkshire tea now. Like Tea used to be

Unless you’re talking Betty’s Tea Room Blend (Loose Leaf) which is the tea of the gods, you can fuck right off and I’m on the other side in the big rumble and will happily twat you with my tea strainer. Not sure how but just discovered how good Lancashire Tea is. Yorkshire Tea can now fuck off into the bin with PG Tips as tasteless coloured water

That we'll be doing 100k tests a day from tomorrow is great news. And Hancock will actually be right when he goes on a victory lap to say people in the media said they wouldn't get there.

It's also promising that John Newton has said previously that once you have everything in place to be doing 100k, 200k and above becomes much more straightforward.

But, as for the idea we couldn't have done this earlier (from the ST)...

The lack of action was confirmed by Doris-Ann Williams, chief executive of the British In Vitro Diagnostics Association, which represents 110 companies that make up most of the UK’s testing sector. Amazingly, she said her organisation did not receive a meaningful approach from the government asking for help until April 1 — the night before Hancock bowed to pressure and announced a belated and ambitious target of 100,000 tests a day by the end of this month.

Lancashire Tea is fabulous.

Milder, gentler than others.

Redbrush tea is ace.

Tictok do an earl grey.. lovely stuff

Hmm, I'll give them a go

You were doing a "positives" piece for a couple of days.

Some of my positives

  • Not driving into Manchester every day
  • Not using up suits
  • Not ironing
  • Walking 8 miles a day
  • Knowing the neighbours
  • A more peaceful external environment
  • Walking over the golf course; it's like a country park!
  • Not spending any money (haven't used cash at all since lockdown)

I’ve been taking the dog around Regent Park golf course and it’s brilliant, I love Golf but I do think what a waste of a space it is

haha - I've tried lancashire tea - bit too weak for me - any other Tea recommendations?

I like Earl Grey and Chai, not into the fruity stuff or green tea
