First one. Didn’t Sheff Utd get relegated when West Ham cheated by having Tevez and Mascherano?

Yes

They should've had a points deduction

But it was decided to fine them instead, a record £5.5m

Because "a points deduction would be unfair on the fans who have done nothing wrong as it would relegate the club"

And do you know which member of the FA gave that explanation?

I also went to the midweek rearranged game, I'd say we took about 500 stood on the open terrace.  I think it was well before the play offs season, maybe a year or 2 IIRC.  John King the manager put in his programme notes something sarcastic about having to cope with so many Bolton fans expected.  I think we came from behind to win and played them a few times over the next few seasons, usually in important games.

Yep I think that was the start of them not liking us doubt we probably hadn’t ever played them much before that .

You  think they wouldn’t mind us they beat us when it matters playoff , cup semi final and a draw stopping us getting a 100 points . Should be more bothered about Chester , Crewe , Wrexham

what’s Sunderland problem with Coventry that’s a fair distance  ?

I want to know why Sheff United hate West Ham and Norwich hate Wolves

Supposedly Norwich sing "we only hate Wolves and Ipswich", it goes back to a Kevin Muscatt stamp on Craig Bellamy's knee in December 98.  Bellamy said Muscatt had told him earlier he was going to get him, and went through with it.  He made a comeback in the next pre-season but his knee went again, and he missed the entire season, and didn't play for Norwich again.  Ewan Roberts knobbled someone in retaliation next time they played Wolves.   Wolves probably don't give Norwich a thought to be fair, they aren't short of proper rivalries.

Goes back to last day of 76/77 season. Sunderland away at Everton. Coventry at home to Bristol City.  Sunderland could lose and stay up so long as the other two didn't draw.  Sunderland lost 0-2 while there was still 15 minutes or so to play at Coventry. They were drawing 2-2 at the time, so Jimmy Hill had it announced over the public address system that Everton had lost. Coventry and Bristol players just stopped playing then and passed it between themselves until the final whistle.

Last day of season 76/77, it was between those 2 to get relegated.  Jimmy Hill got Cov's KO delayed supposedly because of traffic congestion.  So they knew what they had to do to stop up, and just played out a draw to send Sunderland down.

“Tevez's surprise arrival at Upton Park alongside Javier Mascherano in August 2006 was adjudged to have broken Premier League rules over third-party ownership of players. The Hammers were fined £5.5m for the breach but were crucially spared a points deduction, a ruling that set them on a collision course with Sheffield United.

It would end with Tevez inspiring West Ham to safety on the final day of the 2006/07 season at the expense of the Blades, who were relegated on goal difference and sent spiralling into a decade of decline, the scars of which still run deep.”

From Sky sports.

No idea on Wolves and Norwich. Can’t imagine Norwich causing a twinge anywhere other than in Ipswich

Ah yeah forgot about all the caper. How the hell was that allowed to happen.

Even we've had a bit with Wolves.

Their older lot bloody hate us. Only second to WBA for a good portion of them.

Don't Sheff U also have some kind of rivalry with Forest that's linked to the miner's strike? Leeds and Chelsea is another proper grudge match.

Anyway Tranmere can fuck off. Absolutely not coloured with Bolton Wanderers. Wigan by the Mersey.

I think it dates back to that FA Cup Final and replay in the early 70s when they kicked seven shades of shit out of each other.

McGinlay/Lofty-gate.

One of my first BW games was the last game of 76-77 when they stopped us going up and they had thousands on the Embankment.

Every time we've played them in the last 40 odd years its seemed like a relatively big game, its never one of those games that feels routine, even the one in the Div 4 when away fans were banned had a biggish game feel.

We played them not sure when exactly might have been before the playoffs at Wembley  and it got called off because the police couldn’t cope with the influx of Bolton expected for the weekend so that got there tails up .

Went to the re arranged game midweek wet cold  just a run of the mill midweek winter evening and we took fuck all really  in support and they were up for it Mates car we went in got smashed up

work with a tranmere supporter and he recons they have a big buy out coming some American rapper

87/88. We tried to claim the 3 points on the grounds that they wouldn’t fulfil the fixture. It was played a few weeks later - the week before Christmas- and we lost 2-0.

I was at that Wolves game, was 14 at the time. Kenny Hibbitt scored the crucial goal from a mile offside, I kicked off about it and got told off by my grandad for my language 🤣

While there's not much going on....I was reading an article on the bizarre rivalry between Gillingham and Swindon, so that when they played a total dead rubber on the last day of this season, there was a huge police presence and scuffles in the town centre.  They are 120 miles apart but hate each other because of some fiesty games in 1979/80.

The article goes on to say its not alone with strange hatred of other clubs that aren't local, eg Norwich and Wolves; Sheff U & West Ham etc, and that Tranmere and Bolton "hate each other because of some overly exuberant play off celebrations in 1991".

So its obviously recognised as a rivalry beyond the 2 clubs, but I thought it started earlier than that Wembley defeat, we already had a rivalry before then.  I'm just not sure what prompted it (other than the fact that every tinpot North West club seems to hate us for some reason).

Every local tinpot club (trashmere, bury, wigin, stockport, morecambe, etc.) all hate us because they're tinpot and always will be - and they know it! Whereas we represent what they would love to be - but never, in a million years, will be.

The Wolves thing goes further than McGinlay it seems. Even their darkest ever day getting beat by Chorley came at Burnden which was full of pisstaking Bolton fans and they were given plenty outside and in town.

We knocked them out of the cup in the middle of their rise from the ashes.

We beat them 5-0 at Burnden in another dark day for them.

Then we have Super John in the playoffs. Many of them say the atmosphere that night was their most intimidating.

Then two seasons later we do the double. Super John scores two at theirs then comes out doing kick ups on his own at ours. 20 man brawl shortly after and a McGinlay goal right in front of them followed by Lofty winding them up. Bloomin marvellous :)

Few seasons later we beat them at Home to stop them getting in Play offs live on telly.

Then we all but relegate them at theirs with SKD having the game of his life and should've been sent off.

We had them on toast for well over a decade.

That day they whooped us 5-0 to go up meant a lot to them...

I have never witnessed trouble at a football game certainly not involving Bolton as i did as a kid watching that last game of the season in 77.....Not United on the Friday night, Stoke, Everton in the semi or Chelsea all around the same time.

This game has always stood out in my memory....We battered wolves but Richards scored and Wolves fans invaded the pitch and headed towards the lever end. They were met by Bolton fans from both the Burnden paddock  and Manchester Road before they even reached the half way line.

TBF, if it was the other way round we'd be exactly the same.

It’s not though. Dog head wankers hahaha
