Why should Putin be given that land?

Why are people who support rangers suddenly ok with a country taking sovereign land there but not ok with it closer to home?

Im not saying any hypocrisy is at play here.

Just wondering, like.

He shouldn’t but it looks like the only way of peace which is probably why Keir Starmer is warming to it.

How did that peace work out in Ulster after 1920?

Maybe the “source” you quoted  hasn’t passed on the news. As Kellogg said it would be foolish to suggest otherwise. It would take a fool to think peace talks will go ahead and agreed on without a rep from the Ukraine being there.

Shifting the posts again. 🤦‍♂️ We're talking about the talks, not the potential signing off of any agreement.

They’re gaining ground more quickly than at any time since it launched the invasion.

I'm not sure about that when you read the article in full

They took loads in a "rapid" invasion in the first month, which Ukraine fought back for

And every step of the way with the help given they've been able to fight the advances and slow them right down

Look at what they had in march 22 compared to now

What are you on about. They have said Ukraine are invited and it’s foolish to suggest otherwise. If they’re not there it’s probably their own fault.

I read it that they will be invited, just not to the first round this week, after which they’ll probably have already been shafted by the US? Have you a source which says they’ll be round the table tomorrow - great news if so 👍

You honestly don’t believe that do you, you’re just being silly now.

Let’s not talk about me making bonkers claims and then pull that out of the bag. Jesus

There was a touch of humour / sarcasm, well done for spotting it.

Which part do you find most bonkers?

I think if Europe had said to Putin 1 year ago that they were up for offering him the land he had taken so far in exchange for ending the war, that Putin would have been interested in meeting. Do you not think he would?

Instead, Europe have been choosing to carry on & defend Ukraine’s right to sovereignty & democracy. Which part of their stance do you disagree with?

It really is nothing special that Trump secured a meeting with Putin. Especially when Europe was deliberately choosing to isolate him.

I read it as they’re invited to the first one tomorrow.

Haha nice try.

Bonkers that you say European leaders didn’t try and attempt any kind of talks as they respect Ukraine’s right to sovereignty. It looks like Starmer is already on board with the proposed peace plans. So much for their respect.

Not yet at real negotiation stage is what the yanks use. Looks like America and Russia are just having a bit of a chin wag over many topics.

He said: "If it's real negotiations, and we're not there yet, but if that were to happen, Ukraine will have to be involved because they're the one that were invaded, and the Europeans will have to be involved because… they have sanctions on Putin and Russia as well, and they've contributed to this effort."

Do people honestly think peace talks aren’t going to involve Ukraine?

Chin wag = Trump licking Putins boots.

That strategy has seen Russian take around 25% of Ukraine in under 2 years, despite funding of 100s of  billions. It Hardly been a success.

I'm not sure I agree. The predictions were that Russia would steamroller Ukraine. I think it's remarkable that they have held onto as much territory as they have. Although I'll bow to your superior knowledge on the combat front.

And it's been enormously costly for Russia. In terms of man power and resources. It's set then back a long way by my understanding. At least a decade.

Putin really needs a deal, just as much as Zelensky does. I just think DT is going to give him a really easy off ramp. But we'll see what happens.

Can you imagine the wank fest on here if it was Starmer that managed to hold peace talks with Putin.

The fact Trump is going to achieved it whilst been in office for a month is remarkable.

Whaddaguy

There would be no wanking if he sold Ukraine out in the process. Apart from normal everyday wanking of course 😁

And it's this thing again. Let's not make it into left vs right like we do about EVERYTHING!

Thanks for clarifying that they won’t be at the table tomorrow for the initial talks.

Of course they’ll be involved in the overall peace talks (!!), but don’t you think it’s odd they’re not there from the get go? How would you feel if it was us in their shoes? I think they’re fully justified to feel snubbed and dare I say paranoid.  It’s their country, they were invaded and at least 50k of their citizens have been killed defending their homeland.

Doesn’t make any sense to me. Doesn’t  feel right.

Not really. They're slowly grinding out territory. If they were advancing as quickly as they were at the start of the war then they would be in Paris by now.

If they had the equipment Ukraine have been given they probably would. Unbelievable  how far they have got with what they have.
