gonzo Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Indeed. But we all know how it works. Folk get enraged about emotive things and ignore billions spaffed elsewhere. Find it strange that the normally Little Englander mob who crow about us ruling the waves and never backing down to anyone are all of sudden are against helping a fellow country out. Quote

I dunno, country was on its arse before all this started Apparently we've sent £12.8bn so far The Tories spaffed £10-15bn on unused PPE It all depends on what putting less money in looks like If any deal genuinely is good for Ukraine then great Just hope Europe doesn't stand back and allow them to get bummed by Trump and Putin We can’t afford to sit back. Russia is already engaged in a proxy war with the UK and other EU allies. You only have to listen to the MI5 bloke from a few months back. Quote

They tacitly support Putin because he’s a “strong leader” As always, a much bigger picture exists but folk are concentrating on what makes them look best on Twitter Quote
wakey Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 All a bit woke this squatters' rights bollocks. Should be telling Putin's mob to fuck off back where they came from. Quote
Farrelli Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Trump is going to put us all in danger by pacifying Putin. He won’t care though. Quote

You mean on here? Feel free to start naming names because I'm struggling to think of one. A 'fellow country'? Does that mean we should be intervening in South Sudan? Myanmar? All fellow countries. Just for clarity, I have long expressed the hope that some of Putins pissed off oligarchs would bump him off. There is always hope. In the meantime The Don will stop the bloodshed and the waste. They won't be budged without some sort of shock and awe conflagration led by the US. In case you didn't get the memo, this is not on the agenda. FFS don't place any faith in the Brussels bruisers. Putin will send the Bolshoi to sort that lot out. Quote

Blessed are the peacemakers. This deal could influence the whole of geopolitics for the next 50 years. He needs to get this bob on - or at least close to bob on. I'm just hoping he has some really talented advisors that will prevent him from tying us up in knots for the foreseeable future in the pursuit of a deal which makes him look successful in the short term - but causes mayhem further down the line. Much as I personally dislike the guy - I'm hoping he pulls an absolute rabbit out of the hat with this. If he can - then he'll really shut a few people up (myself included). If he doesn't - then we'll be living with the consequences for a long, long time. Quote

In a nutshell Bolty & Royal rambling on about ‘peace talks’, ‘strong leadership’ and criticising Europe’s lack of action… it’s nonsense. There’s nothing special about these talks being arranged. & nothing has been achieved. I hope I’m wrong for what it’s worth. Currently they’re just the first set of cronies to offer Putin the land he brutally stole. Any European leader could have arranged these talks if they were willing to pander to Putin. I get the arguments that Gonzo makes about funding etc. But we have to be very careful as a continent about appeasing Putin & how much land we give him. As the cost, destruction & electoral interference could be much more costly further down the line. Quote

Remember when he was going to sort Kim Jong Un out, and force him to give up his Nuclear and Long Range missile testing. I'm not sure much actually happened, beyond them having a meeting did it? The plus is that he's apparently talking to Putin, but that doesn't mean all will be well in the short or even medium term. Ideally for Putin, this causes a split between the US and the EU, with the US withdrawing all assistance (which they would do in a heartbeat, if it wasn't for the wealth of minerals in Ukraine) Quote

The biggest donor of weapons and money, by a long, long way. Instrumental, together with Europe etc, in slapping a belligerent Russian down. As you know, I believe it was the right thing to do, as it may have prepared the ground for a proper deal to end hostilities. If now is the time to utilise the position to achieve this then great stuff. Time to give parties time to sort it out. Quote
