Do people honestly think peace talks aren’t going to involve Ukraine?

Oh I'm sure when US and Russia have agreed what the peace deal will look like they'll invite Ukraine over

Thanks for clarifying that they won’t be at the table tomorrow for the initial talks.

Of course they’ll be involved in the overall peace talks (!!), but don’t you think it’s odd they’re not there from the get go? How would you feel if it was us in their shoes? I think they’re fully justified to feel snubbed and dare I say paranoid.  It’s their country, they were invaded and at least 50k of their citizens have been killed defending their homeland.

Doesn’t make any sense to me. Doesn’t  feel right.

Probably because they are discussing other topics? Who knows. Zelensky is probably best off waiting to meet the big guns once they decide to meet. If he doesn’t like what’s on offer he’s doesn’t agree to it.

Fair cop.  Let’s see how it plays out…..

If they had the equipment Ukraine have been given they probably would. Unbelievable  how far they have got with what they have.

Thank god they've not then eh?

That's why I think the strategy was working. It was the long game - but that was fine by me. And we still had room to escalate if we'd needed to.

Although I might feel differently if I was in a trench and it was minus 10.

And this stuff about Starmer "buying into the plan". He's a pragmatist - and he understands the lay of the land. And I think he's doing everything he can (within reason) to protect the UK from DTs more demented ideas. I'm not comfortable with it - but I can see why he's taken that approach.

France and Poland weren't at Potsdam

Haha nice try.

Bonkers that you say European leaders didn’t try and attempt any kind of talks as they respect Ukraine’s right to sovereignty. It looks like Starmer is already on board with the proposed peace plans. So much for their respect.

Nice try ? 😂
You didn’t highlight the quote about sovereignty. You highlighted the bit I wrote about Putin, which I then responded to.

You’re spinning yourself in circles 😂

as I said, there’s no need.

And yes, if European leaders went behind Ukraine‘s back & offered loads of land, that would not be respecting Ukraine’s right to sovereign rule.

I don’t know what’s so difficult to grasp?

And I’ve no idea why you’re trying to big up a set of talks that anyone willing to pander to Putin could have achieved.

So why didn’t they? You said any country could have achieved this which you know is bollocks. Especially as now they look like they will pander to the peace deals. That’s not respecting Ukraine’s right is it.

Since the invasion this has been the only talk of peace. Yet haters are going to hate.

Pulling out some crackers tonight fella. Mondays hit you hard!

It doesn’t help having numerous recent (failed) conflicts fresh in peoples minds.

There's parallels with the first Iraq War here. Blimey 34 years ago now.

"In genuine commerce the other side can usually walk away. Trump’s demand is iron-fist coercion by a neo-imperial power against a weaker nation with its back to the wall, and all for a commodity bonanza that exists chiefly in Trump’s head."

FFS, not another one who has started reading Socialist Worker (the ultimate irony).

That fucking London Wanderer will have something to do with this.

Just watching European leaders turn up for “crisis talks” on the news. Would have been nice to have these crisis talks 12- 18 months ago hey. Looks like they may have had the kick up the arse that they needed.

The stupidity of some people is mind boggling. It must be Scottish air.

No sign of movement all the years under Biden. Attacks on each other, death and destruction bolstered by Sleepy Joes weapons supply.

Trump gets in, the flaccid Euro leaders suddenly having to scramble (useless fat cat trough swilling cunts) and peace is on the horizon. The bureaucratic embezzlers might actually do something about their own defence now - the freeloading bastards.

The wokes don't like a strong leader who gets things done. I certainly do.

You honestly don’t believe that do you, you’re just being silly now.

Let’s not talk about me making bonkers claims and then pull that out of the bag. Jesus

'Just'!!! FFS, he should be in Wikipedia as the definition.

The only negotiations taking place should be how many days Putin has got to get his troops out of Ukraine and back into their own country.

Yes and Bolton Wanderers should be given a 50 point bonus right now for being founder members of the Football League.

Both things are as likely to happen as you disproving the inference of your avatar.

This!

For 18 months Trump has been telling the world  what he’s going to do, this was before he was even in power. European leaders, for whatever reason, have decided to ignore him. Now he’s doing what he said emergency meetings are being held, talks of troops being put on the ground, KS saying America are right and we need to spend more etc etc etc. it’s embarrassing

The article above from the Lt. is very pertinent. No one wants to put their troops onto the front line there, and rightly so, though we don't know what the future will bring.

Well, in that regard, the talks went really well. Sir Kier's somewhat premature comments seems to have annoyed some of his fellow leaders, and the Germans walked out of the talks.

I've heard one mon talking about the conflict, saying much of Ukraine's land is owned by big corporations who are after it's rich assets.

It seems that Ukraine privatised much of its industry to raise money, and that some of these big groups have increased their presence there.

I don't know the full details, and how accurate the claim is, though it might add some insight into Putin's thought processes.

It may also shed some light into Trump's thoughts too: there will be huge opportunities for companies during any rebuild.

All a big mess, pros and cons etc, but ultimately it is Ukrainian sovereign territory and that should be respected.

Impressive. You could definitely get a job ghost writing Trumpys social media accounts you know.

The 64 billion dollar question is, if we do have to tip in more, where the fucks the money coming from?

It's okay sitting here shouting we should be doing more and paying for more but when it starts impacting every day life for people then that's when morals and loyalties go out of the window.

Would our people really accept anymore taxes or economic suffering to pay more to Ukraine?

The country is already on its arse.

Some tough questions on the horizon.

Same questions for Russians as well?

I dunno, country was on its arse before all this started

Apparently we've sent £12.8bn so far

The Tories spaffed £10-15bn on unused PPE

It all depends on what putting less money in looks like

If any deal genuinely is good for Ukraine then great

Just hope Europe doesn't stand back and allow them to get bummed by Trump and Putin
