I agree he's ultimately accountable.....

I just think we've made it that little bit more likely be breaking up the union.

And Trump made a lot more likely by driving a wedge between the US and NATO and questioning its very existence.

Anyway - whatever the underlying reasons are, it's how we deal with it that matters now I suppose!

I honestly think that Putin had these plans in mind long before Trump or Brexit entered our lives. Both of which I detested. 10 years ago, I had a long conversation with a Ukrainian in an Irish bar in Prague who predicted this due to Ukraines wish to join NATO.
A simplistic explanation of why I have these views but I’ve kept a close eye on things ever since.

I have personal interests in that part of the world so I take a more serious view of things than most, if that’s possible.

Trump did as much to hasten it as anybody else. By systematically undermining the institutions that guard the west from Putin.

Brexit won't have helped either.

Anything that show's a less United Europe and/or NATO is music to Putin's ears and has been for a long, long time.

It’s no surprise to anyone with a modicum of intelligence that putin has invaded Ukraine while Biden is in power rather than when Trump was in power, let’s hope sleepy joe steps up to the plate.

How come it's always been pronounced here as 'Key Ev' but just lately it's become 'Keev'

It is a bit odd, that is how Ukraine speakers say it but we don't say Parrie for Paris so why Keev?

Lefty flannels fighting over pronunciation of words thinking it makes a blind bit of difference.

Like when politicians said we should call isis daesh

That'll show em

You called this years ago.

I read a couple of biographies on Putin a good while back which is why I’ve always had an interest. He’s been waiting for the right moment and I do think the timing is down to many factors, weakened Europe, pandemic to name two

I believe that us being part of a European Union would make us stronger, economically. Both the U.K. and Europe.

I also believe that Putin would have done everything the same as he’s done either way. It’s NATO he’s afraid of, not the EU.

Biden, for the record, has just frozen over a Trillion dollars worth of Russian assets in a heartbeat.

The share prices of 6 Russian banks has plummeted.

Whilst I doubt Putin gives a fuck, someone in Russia will and hopefully it will trigger enough Russians to launch the cunt into the Black Sea.

Couple of Typhoons that came out of Coningsby barely 2 hours ago now flying patrols over Poland. Whole flight has been available to view on Flight Radar which is fairly unusual. We'll be sending all sorts over that way in the coming days I think.

There’s a few of those massive US Air Force tankers from Mildenhall circling around Poland as well

Seen some of their flight times? Some are 6+ hours doing circuits. That airspace will be crammed full of jets with their transponders turned off, the only things that show up on FR are what they want you to see.

I remember being in Thailand about 10 years back on Ko Samui. And sitting in a bar with a Russian soldier and a Ukrainian Soldier. They were drinking together, getting absolutely blind drunk, but talking about how they could be fighting each other when they got home. It was bloody eerie. Really poignant but such a strange feeling.

I think Putin has probably been thinking about these things for years too. But he's been emboldened by what he's seen.

And now sadly he needs putting back in his box - if we can find a way to put him back in that is.......

No

Brexit has saved us from having to get involved.

Why should we sit in on meetings involving all the main EU players when we can spend that money on other things?

We are involved.

Downing Street is flying the Ukraine flag and is lit up in the Ukrainian colours.

That'll stop the Ruskies

It’s not just Downing Street. It’s all over the world. It’s symbolic. Sometimes it works, sometimes if doesn’t.

We just have to hope he has massively underestimated his own people.

It may be his only weakness.

Hes so blinded by his obsession with Soviet greatness, that he may have misread the lack of appetite for it amongst the average Russian.

But that’s just hope. Then they have to get their act together and finish the massive Willy woofter

That's my hope too.

I think it's a folorn one sadly!

Yep. The two nations are very closely linked both historically, culturally and spiritually. Ukrainians are very independent though. Putin may have underestimated them. Time will tell.

At the very least, it's a statement of solidarity and togetherness. Like thousands of people turning up to cheer Bolton on when only 11 men have any effect on the actual game.

I haven't blamed anything on Brexit. I've said it's one of many things that has contributed to what looks, to Vladimir Putin, like a weakened Western Europe.

If you can be arsed searching for it - I said as much at the time of the vote.

Nah.

EU isn't Europe. Nor is it NATO.

We've shown categorically that we don't need to be in the EU to support Europe.

I'd suggest turning it the other way: had we remained in the EU, it wouldn't have made one iota of difference- the attack would still have happened.

It's an EU nation that is currently stopping the the banning of Russia from the swift banking system, so its not exactly a defensive panacea.

I've literally just come back from a meeting with an individual at the ukranian club. He's a senior figure and made time to chat with us despite his busy schedule, and amongst other things, he's quite happy with the UK response today, and the intelligence gathering that he said has been spot on. Suffice to say his view of Germany was less so.

I took part in an exercise in the Ukraine in 2000, I hope to god they have improved their kit and equipment as they had virtually fuck all with conscripts who had zero enthusiasm being asked to work what little they did have.

Beautiful country though.
