Clown World You can keep testing positive for a few months after the initial positive result, even though you no longer carry the virus. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/your-coronavirus-questions-answered-could-you-still-test-positive-for-covid-19-months-after-the-infection/2021/09/24/42ed9d4a-1be3-11ec-8380-5fbadbc43ef8_story.html Quote People who get infected with the coronavirus can test positive for quite a while, but that does not mean they are still contagious to others. One expert said that although people who receive an initial positive test result should certainly assume they are infectious and act accordingly, they do not need a negative result after the recommended isolation period. Some people have continued to test positive for months after an infection with the coronavirus. This is more likely to happen when using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which are the gold standard but are also very sensitive in detecting remnants of the coronavirus. The test is designed to look for evidence of viral RNA — the genetic material of the coronavirus — and the human body can shed viral RNA for a long time as it is getting rid of the virus, said Jennifer Nuzzo, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. But, she said, the test could be simply detecting fragments of RNA — not the whole, active virus, which would be required to infect other individuals. Edited October 28, 2021 by Cheese Quote

All good, just need boosters getting sorted, as it's believed part of our high numbers is due to waning immunity. Will be interesting to see if numbers rise again in Europe as they approach 6 months since the second vaccination. Quote

Because it kills the same proportion of people now that the vaccine is fully implemented. Why aren’t we masking up for the flu? Look, I was right behind the restrictions, and I’ll have the booster when my time comes. But Covid is now no more deadly than flu. We should treat it the same way. If people don’t want a jab because they think Bill Gates wants to smell their kidneys, that’s up to them. But we’re so over it now. Edited October 29, 2021 by Spider Quote

Many mistakes were made at the early stages of the pandemic. The government will be judged on their handling of it. You’ve probably also noticed that not many people agree with you. Your making comparisons with your own situation in Spain (I’m assuming your still there) Like I’ve said before, your comparing Spanish oranges with English apples. I know more about the Czech Republic than Spain and their rates have suddenly shot up, again. I’ve no doubt Spain will suffer the same. The situation is constantly changing. It’s not going away. I actually think the government did ok-Ish. The real scandal was their handing put of money to friends and you’d hope that all comes back to fuck them hard. However, the vaccine and return to normality has, in my non-medical opinion, gone pretty well. I was happy (well, not happy but you know what I mean) abiding by lockdowns, mask mandates and all the testing, but I see the numbers and think it’s sadly something we must live with and keep to a minimum. We will never be rid of it. Quote

Why aren't we wearing masks for the 'flu? Already got my first cold of the winter, after a long long period of not having catching one - roughly tallying with preponderance of hand sanitising and mask-wearing amongst the great unwashed. I think wearing a mask when folk are on top of each other and there's no alternative (supermarkets, public transport, airports/planes etc.) is no great hardship. And 'flu still is a killer - most NHS get jabbed voluntarily each year, it's also a gateway ilness to pneumonia and it puts pressure on services. Defeffal and chums won't bring back mandatory mask-wearing purely on grounds of populism. Quote
