Northampton v Derby

Derby are shite, old team of dinosaurs playing non league football, they're incredibly reliant on Mendez Laing for everything.

But we're even worse if we can't finish above them, nobody but ourselves to blame this season. It's almost as if we're trying to throw away 2nd place and yet it keeps present itself back to us, tempting us once more.

One thing though, if somehow we find Pompey, Derby and ourselves in the Championship next season, I'd be willing to bet my house that us and Pompey do better than Derby there. They'd get butchered as much as any previous Paul Warnes Rotherham side.

Supposedly well run these days. Derby bloke I work with says wages at 40% turnover. Impressive if correct.

So if we win and Derby don’t Friday, we go into the Reading game knowing if we win that one we go 2nd…. (Portsmouth v Derby don’t play till the Tuesday)

Ifs…. buts…. etc. But a cracking incentive.

I think they are saying Mendez Laing has done his Hamstring.

Looking at the remaining fixtures, if Lincoln carry on as they've been playing recently, they've got an excellent chance of finishing 6th at the expense of Oxford and Stevenage.

In their last seven games they've won 6, drawn 1, scored 22 goals and conceded just 1 - the kind of end of season form we can only dream of.

Which makes me wonder about finishing 3rd in the league...

We can look at where Derby and Posh might drop points, but ultimately we need to take care of our own form and start winning again, ideally as convincingly as Lincoln are doing. Hopefully the break will give us a reset.

If we are worried about Lincoln let’s just be done with it and call it a day. They are having a bit of a run. I’d happily take em if we do end up in play offs

It is an impressive run for the playoffs though. That said, I'm not worried about them - I'm worried about us finding and maintaining our best form - we can take on anyone when we're on it.

Taking on and beating are 2 different things unfortunately.  Us being "on it" doesn't coincide with playing the better teams to date.

The incentive is to change that over the next 3 tougher fixtures and if necessary in the 3 that might follow in the play-offs.

Nice run in fixtures for Lincoln as well. They do play Pompey at home last game of the season but the latter could be champions by then. Toughest is the next game, home to Orient - who need to win to keep an outside chance. O's must be kicking themselves at having a poor start to the season, which I didn't expect given they'd have momentum from a cracking promotion last year. Thought it would be the other way round - start well but fade in the 2nd half of the season.

As an aside, just looking at tables and Coventry are still well placed to sneak into the playoffs. Plus given the inconsistency of the opposition, a middling chance of beating the Filth in the FA semi.

So three Wembleys in just over a month. Plus the playoff final would have to change dates as it's the day after the Cup.

Apparently would be swapping dates with League One final so worth noting

Lincoln signed Joe Taylor on loan, who we were apparently after but went for AC instead. He’s got 8 goals in 12 games. That’ll be why they’re on a good run.

He's "only" scored in 4 of those 12 games, yes he got the winner v Exeter but in the other 3 games he scored in, Lincoln scored 16 goals and without his goals would still have comfortably won.  Not saying he isn't a good player, but clearly they are on a superb run anyway and he's just a part of it.

Didn't realise that, it's making me doubt I want Cov to win the semi now.  Having to wait another 8 days for the final isn't great, unless its the difference between Baxter being available and not.

What you saying here matthew

Does it affect us

If Cov get to FA Cup Final then that would be taking place on the same weekend as the Championship play off final, so that would move to Sat 18th May and League One final goes to Sun 26th May.

Obviously they’ll wait until after the semi final before making a call, but you’d think it would need to be a fairly sharp call after that rather than waiting to see if Cov are in the play offs.

Won’t matter to us as we’ll have our feet up having finished second 😊

Aye, though I raised the whole idea earlier, it didn't occur to me that they'd have to do it in advance of even knowing Cov had made the playoff final. But they'd have to really, as you say.
