Hate Crime.

Is it possible in a few lines to explain to somebody largely disinterested why Rowling is so controversial

What are her opinions...for a simpleton, please

She wrote shit stories about a boy who isn’t quite what he thinks he is

And made herself quite a bit of money

So folk didn’t like her

Then she had opinions about boys (and girls) who weren’t quite what they think they were

And folk hated her even more. Because she was rich. And famous. And had an opinion. Simples

sums it up in one..

Sure there have been a few fan theories about characters where they have created a back story, for JKR to say, no, sorry, just no...

Very true.

To be fair, I think she has been pretty rude to trans women but she firmly believes in biological sex which is fair enough.

One thing that made me think though was a caller to LBC a while back because it was from a trans woman, which she said she would always be, a trans woman not a women.

But, she was nearly 70 and had breasts and a vagina, so she was horrified at the prospect of being put on a male ward if she was admitted to hospital.

An isolated case at one time but there are now plenty more which I think needs thinking about. Some bloke in a swimsuit I don't have much empathy for though tbh.

She hasn't been rude etc to anyone other than those who seek to abuse her or offer threats etc.

Stood up for herself and for women everywhere.

Of course fuckwits insist she has been offensive etc, but on the basis that her common sense view doesn't fit the rules the same fuckwits decide on, and therefore by their definition she is "phobic" or "ist".

Just an reflection of the racism/white privilege/crt bollocks that a similarly dysfunctional group create, with their evidence free, circular arguments.

Someone’s in a sweary mood tonight. Must be the weather.

There was always going to be a huge number of complaints to begin with. That will settle down. More importantly, 99.9% have been dismissed, thus proving the drama queens were wrong to suggest free speech was under threat. JK Rowling was never going to be arrested in a million years.

As Police Scotland said, it’s a “high criminal threshold” that is well balanced with human rights laws.

I’m undecided still and accept that it needs time.

Not my party of choice, but always amusing hearing a Tory apologist (who’s been defending one of the most incompetent governments we’ve ever had) claim Humza Yousaf is a nutjob. Crikey.

A few years ago, in between jobs, I worked as a call handler for GMP. Dreadful organisation to work for but the calls could be quite lively and interesting.

Of all the calls I took, pretty much every offence had been committed but the most hysterical, upset caller I ever had, was a lass who rang 999 because she'd been excluded from a watsapp group.

"Insults" that are deemed "likely" - as opposed to intended - to stir up hate crime isn't a high crime threshold

Police Scotland are so far, quite sensibly, opting not to enforcement the legislation as it's written, which is a different matter

Not sure it needs to be undecided, it's a terrible piece of legislation that can't be enforced. Another reason why the SNP are a poor, one policy party.

To be honest, the more I read the more messy it all sounds. Despite much of the proposed threats to free speech not materialising.

Agree that the police don't currently have the time or resources to deal with it.

There's definitely more to the SNP than the independence campaign though.

I know but I remember having full bloodied arguments at Uni with fervent SNP youth members and nothing they have ever done has disavowed me of the opinion that they are a fancy liberal-lite party who if had real control of the economy of the nation they would find themselves as embarrassed as the Breexiters are now, but finicially worse off.

I've had very good mates in Glasgow telling me I'm another English Conservative despite the pure facts presented before them.

But the fact that a Nationalist Party in a western democracy is positioning themselves as beyond Liberal is a study before our eyes.

Maybe you should back off with your thinking then.

I see car stickers occasionally, one near my house too, I Love JK Rowling

Seems she has a fervent fan base too and it can't just be of the back of knocking out a few Harry Potter books

Eg
