To take some of the every day dealings off the managers shoulders so he can concentrate more on the players, training/tactics

Sounds good, but I reckon there are few genuine managers that would want to work under those terms.

I doubt very much that BSA himself would.

Likewise with Evatt, though the level of input from outside agencies with him surprised me a touch.

Robbie fowler has applied apparently. 🤣

No he was just in the area for similar reasons to Dion Dublin. Though Robbie is after making a  deal on several attractively priced houses on Gibraltar Street.

Mowbray or Rowett would have been my first choices, but they're not going to be coming here now. Schumacher is probably the best available, so I'd be happy with him.

We don't need a sentimental appointment here to put a fire out.

Like said above, we are fully loaded and ready to go. It's actually a dream job for someone.

Sqaud full of talent

Decent owners not afraid to spend

Decent crowds & 2nd Biggest clubs in the division

In touch with play off places

It's a perfect job.

It's also pivotal to us. Probably one of our most important appointments in decades.

The money won't be here forever, either will the Swiss mob.

Another season or two down here the sqaud will depreciate even more.

This is our Bruch Rioch moment.

They need to get this right.

It could go Colin Todd or turn Sammy Lee

For those wanting Schumacher, a little excerpt from his Wiki page. I can imagine the meltdown as we lose our last game at home to Stevenage 5-0 and miss out on the Play Offs.

For the record, I'm neither for nor against him. There is no sure fire thing here!

"Argyle's fine early form under Schumacher saw the club record six straight wins in March 2022 without conceding a single goal, the best defensive record at the club since 2005.[152][153] This impressive run of form saw Schumacher awarded the EFL League One Manager of the Month award for March.[154] The season ultimately ended in disappointment as a 5–0 home defeat to Milton Keynes Dons on the final day of the season saw Plymouth drop out of the play-off places.[155]"

I suppose the counter to that is that the next season he and his team rallied and went up as champions

Absolutely - wasn't an anti Schumacher post at all. Just a point that even good managers experience heavy home defeats and (in his case as well) bad Wembley defeats.

I still think we've a slim play off chance this season, but I think it'll more likely be a season of planning now, ready to go next season.

If we can get shut of Brum, Hollywood and Huddersfield this season, i think the league evens out financially next season as well, which will help.

New manager bounce alone should push us in playoffs, always a little pick up when the new man comes in.

There are a million articles about new manager bounces out there. A great book years ago called Soccernomics analysed it too.

In short, there is usually a small uptick over the first 5 games, but most teams then revert to type after that. This is an average of course. Some get a new manager and get worse. Some get better. And some stay the same. On average, most stay the same after the first 5 games.

So, we should do okish over the next month or so. After that, who knows. I'd love us to have a Play Off push after an underwhelming season. Just can't help but feel the new manager will be tasked with promotion next season, and more likely to use this season trying things out. This will mean some wins but also some defeats.

Actually White I was thinking that myself. I know there were all the off field personal issues with Evatt but I wondered did we pot him just that bit too soon? He seemed finally to be accepting that we needed a tweak to the system with the young left back from Liverpool and move for a more experienced and physical striker, sadly losing out on James Collins. Maybe if we had given him this last window he might have delivered but we’ll never know now will we? I’m genuinely sorry it didn’t work out for Evatt and whilst I didn’t like him as a person we did play some outstanding stuff under him but I think the Wembley no show hurt him far more than we realise.

To soon? To fuckin late!

Totally agree that we need to get this right but I would question some of the  other points for example the squad is imbalanced IMO, lacking in key areas. And the “talent” tends to flatter a bit as a lot of pretty football goes nowhere and often ends with a piss poor pass to the opposition.

As for the owners spending, we have no idea whether or not there is anything left to spend - selling Charles to fund Randell would suggest not.

It is a great opportunity for someone, no doubt, but it is far from straightforward and the issues Evatt faced have to be resolved e.g. how do you consolidate the defence without taking something away from the midfield or the attack?

We need a top manager plus a few signings and I’m not sure there’s going to be enough time to wheel and deal in this window.
Evatt was undoubtedly the right choice at the time he was appointed, but he’s taken us forward as far as he could and now we face a different challenge.

I’m praying we get it right.

After tomorrow, there might be the chance of a little uplift on Tues / through Feb, given the reasonably kind fixtures. March is a really tough month though, and sustaining that bounce won't be easy if the new man has limited time / scope to do a quick bit of squad reshaping.

We've a squad full of players all brought in to do certain things a certain way, while a new man might be able to get them to do those things a bit better, there are things we'll need to get past the likes of Brum, Wrexham etc that are still alien concepts to the vast majority of them.

Most of the issues Evatt had were of his own making.

I found Thomason's comments very revealing.

The talent has a fresh opportunity; a chance to push for regular games, chance to still get into the play offs, for example.

Anyone not wanting to contribute will hopefully be identified soon and removed.

Actually a great opportunity for an incoming man, with the various facets to the club.

he would be a car crash

indeed, as his ego would ensure that he wouldn't/couldn't keep his nose out of stuff beyond his remit.

Nothing against the bloke, as he gave us the best times we've had (in recent times), but he's not the man for us now......coupled with the fact that no way in a million years will he be coming back here in any capacity, ever.
