They're the heart of this club. Will be an interesting one for SS to manage this. Not many find themselves in this position as early as march. Quote

Agree, it's gonna be some drag Doncaster & Stevenage at home midweek will be empty Quote
Lostock Whites Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I've looked at the play off winners from the last few seasons in League 1 and pretty much most of them all finished the season strong. Now it doesn't really matter too much as the play offs is a lottery, but we got to keep hungry and go into each remaining game determined to win. If we let the season peter out and head into the play offs that way I can only see that as being detrimental. Quote

Might only need 2 more wins though Quote
onefinfrandsen Posted March 15 Posted March 15 This is where ss will earn his corn, easy to go on a bad run but hard to get a good one going. Arguably all the remaining fixtures we have see the opposition having something to play for. Tempting as it might be for the players to take the foot off the gas we need to get out of this league. FrancisFogarty Posted March 15 Posted March 15 It’s a must win this one. For the simple reason that I fucking hate them. Quote

Johnnyrotten Posted March 15 Posted March 15 For me its far from meaningless games. We obviously need some points to secure top 6 (winning the next 2 would probably sort that realistically). Then we need top 4 to get the 2nd leg at home, hopefully under the lights. And for me finishing 3rd rather than 4th could mean playing Reading or Huddersfield instead of Bradford or Stockport. That's worth aiming for and with our tough last 7 fixtures its not difficult to imagine us struggling to get enough points and losing a bit of confidence into the bargain. If we're 6 points ahead of 4th place with about 3 games to go I'll agree we're in dead rubber territory but not before. Quote

They saw their no mark arses when we couldn’t fulfill the fixture in 2019 when we were on our arse. See the BBC article. The only person to come out of it in credit was Parky. We had 3 professionals on the books, we’d just had a spanking 5 - 0 off Tranmere playing the kids Donny and EFL were as much help as usual. Dark days. Never forgive, never forget. Quote

I agree that it’s far from meaningless, but think it’s pointless speculating where we will finish given that we only have a 9 point security blanket and there are still 27 to 33 points to play for. As Rotherham reminded us, this is a tough league from top to bottom - especially at the business end of the season - so the “cup finals” have already started. We have work to do ironing out our flaws if we are going to progress and a home game against Doncaster is a “must win” and a chance to get back to winning ways in my book. Conversely, if we slip up now, the doubts will intensify and could affect our mindset going into the tough games ahead. Quote

As it is, work still to do as you say. Others are right too, limping into play offs having gone off the boil isn't the recipe, we've done that before, positive momentum and energy into them is what its about. Self generating that tomorrow will be the challenge for the players at kick off. Quote

Fully agree and as I’ve said all along, having those top teams to play on the run in keeps some atmosphere and competitiveness to the games. We’ll be testing several of our likely play off opponents so we can’t afford to give them any quarter or confidence. The team still needs our backing every bit as much as it did before. Quote

BeeversLeftPeg Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Got to be looking at 6 points this week ready for the run in. Think most people have accepted playoffs now, 6 points and then playing against 6 sides looking to be in with us (plus Cardiff) is a good challenge to end the season. Make sure we get plenty of minutes for everyone, keep injuries at bay, look to extend the unbeaten run as long as possible. Going 2-0 tomorrow, think some clean sheets beteewen now and May would do us the world of good. Quote

Ani Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I am very much in the let’s finish like a train camp. We saw the total opposite last year when we still had something to play for ! Levels dropped alarmingly as SS discussed the future with players. Hopefully this year the theme is prove you are good enough to get us and win the play offs rather than good luck wherever you are playing next year Quote

Whatever the merits of the individuals this time last season any number of them checked out. Stopped turning up to training, trained poorly, avoided risk. We went from possible top 2 to not even in the play offs. The most disrespectful crock of shite I can recall. This lot show grit, determination, team ethic & character. Even if they do give too many goals away. Edited March 16 by Dr. Feelgood Quote
