Salford Trotter Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I'm normally a £6-£8 a bottle man but I've just spent £18 on a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape as it was on special offer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quote
DazBob Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I've now got 30 cigs to smoke with my wine. A good evening's work I'd say. ... and just to add, in light of recent topics, they were proper 'jobs. Quote
Traf Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 ... and just to add, in light of recent topics, they were proper 'jobs. Good lad. What can I get for 3 roll-ups and half a spliff? Quote
Smiffs Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 3 for a tenner as baz says, because I cant tell the difference. So long as I like the taste, what does it matter? Quote

DazBob Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Good lad. What can I get for 3 roll-ups and half a spliff? A rather hollow feeling hug. You'll still feel cheap afterwards. You might as well splash out. Make it a full spliff and you'll get the works, albeit with my less rythmic left hand and me looking the other way. Quote
Spider Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Argentian Malbecs are a current sup of choice I'm happy to pay £20+, You can have a good holiday in Blackpool, but you know deep down you'd rather be in the south of France. See. Quote
Burndens Bogs Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I buy 3 for a tenner for midweek quaffing, and it's quite palatable. If i want something a little nicer i don't usually spend more than 5 or 6 quid. Not had a bad bottle of wine for a long time now. Quote
Maggie Tate Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Depends how flush we are and our peg is highly educated in this field, so more than the average. It's more about knowing what to avoid at the lower end of the price scale. BUT The idea that you cannot get decent wine for less than a fiver is catwank. You will get more crap the lower price you go, but if you are armed with the slightest bit of knowledge on what to avoid, you can do really, really well, especially at Sainsbury's. You can easily avoid rose that tastes like kayli, red that tastes like gritty vinegar and thick viscous white piss that tastes of petrol. Anyway I like my whiskies and shop online at a place called Master Of Malt and they sent me an email saying they are selling an absinth bottled at 91.2%, so let's have one of those please. Quote

Not had a bad bottle of wine for a long time now. Always get 3 for 10 for midweek. Don't go off price, always taste. Had a bad bottle from asda last year which was a 3 for 10, other 2 were fine. Took it back and they refunded without question but had to give me the full price of the bottle then added £2.50 for the incovenience, so got about £8 back. Quote
Juan.Kerr Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Bit of a wine snob (never, I hear you say) in some people's eyes, but they're usually the ones who sup shite. I don't see it as snobbery, but liking nice stuff. You wouldn't buy cheap and nasty cordial either would you? The parents always loved their wine so I grew up supping it, the stepfather has part of a vineyard and most of it in his wine cellar which is handy. I like wine. And yes 6 quid wine is fine. I don't touch that oak shit though, why lick a tree? No offence NB but this is the sort of reply I was expecting on the "opening a wine bottle with your shoe" thread when I mentioned screw tops. Quote
no balls Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 No offence NB but this is the sort of reply I was expecting on the "opening a wine bottle with your shoe" thread when I mentioned screw tops. Sorry if I gave the wrong reply then....................Yes, screw tops are scutty. Is that betterer? Quote
Youri McAnespie Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) The supermarkets will often bang the price up on a wine - selling none at £12.99 for a week, then slash the price from this artificial one to, say £5.69, and make a killing. People buying thinking it's been reduced so dramatically. This often leads to the 'expensive wine isn't much different' way of thinking. Regarding returning wine, what's to stop anyone buying a bottle for £30 - decanting it, then refilling with £4 catpiss from another supermarket and taking it back, claiming it's 'corked'? Anyway, after two bottles does anyone really give a shit about quality anymore? I'd happily drink Concorde after my two bottle quota Edited September 11, 2012 by Youri McAnespie Quote

stevieb Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Does anyone buy lambrini for birthdays and other special occasions? Only to go with a Spam tea on anniversaries. Quote
dave2980 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Might need more than 3 bottles for everyone on a friday night Nb! Dave, does that mean you've only supped 9 bottles in 9 months? I've probably had a few more than 9 but not many. 12 - 15 say at home. I have a glass of red with my roast dinner pretty much every week but that's from my mums stocks not mine! (I don't live with my parents by the way, we have a family roast dinner most Sundays) Quote
H Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I make my own. Some is very nice some is shit. Bit like buying random bottles from the supermarket. Quote

L/H White Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Recommend me a decent one that I can pop, Asda or Tesco for, limit is £10. Quote
Biggish Dave Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I love wine, mainly drink red but don't go over the top with how much I pay. My choice of tipple is usually an Italian red - Chianti or Bardolino. There are also a few decent Chilean reds out there for not very much. The Spanish Rioja is a bit too woody for me and although French red is good, its from France so stuff em, they can keep it. With white wine, I like it quite dry and very quaffable - again, Italian stuff like Soave or Frascati would be my tipple of choice I usually pay around £5 - £8 for a bottle, any more is a waste. Quote
jules_darby Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Castillo San Lorenzo Rioja Reserva is £5.49 in Tesco Normally about a tenner I may be a gullible sod but I reckon that's alright me. Just bought a couple and on them now Quote
Guest Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Like a bit of Malbec at the moment I think this is BD's area Cheers, Jules Tis interesting It's about risk management Pay £4 and you might get a decent bottle/ not ruin your night Invest £10/£12 into a bottle of liquid sun or philosphy from Oz or France and your'e on top of the world You decide Quote
