Traf
I don't get the animosity towards Gerrard and Lampard etc. Best of their generation and both always gave 100% to the cause. World class? Probably not, but the best we had at the time. Whose international progress have they hindered?
Moderators Zico Posted July 22, 2014 Moderators Share Posted July 22, 2014 it's prob because they never met our high hopes great at club level, decent at international level, just not great - they sum up England really however, it's hard to pick out a decent captain from what's left Rooney will probably get it based on the fact you'd probably say he was the best individual in the team on his day if pushed, and probably the oldest otherwise pick from cahill, jagelilka or hart i guess

Not their fault that our press dubbed them the 'golden generation'
Traf
Hmmmm, Cahill doesnt come across as a captain and I feel that both jags and hart are just keeping the shirt warm until a credible alternative appears on the scene. Neither are that good, really. We're going to end up with a very young team, where Cahill suddenly becomes one of the more experienced players. It might sound like a backward step, but I'd bring ashley cole back as captain. We need a left back, until Shaw or someone else is ready, we need an experienced head at the back and there's plenty of football left in Cole yet.
