Bertie Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Meanwhile, came across this compilation of recent awards for Desperate Donnie. A few more of these may hopefully stop him blowing up the world. https://www.facebook.com/share/1ACBoKaLxF/?mibextid=wwXIfr I think the wizard of oz scarecrow one is a personal favourite. Ani Posted January 19 Posted January 19 We should be OK Trump is only 100% committed to tariffs. Quote
boltonboris Posted January 19 Posted January 19 At this stage, almost every country exporting to the USA have tariff rates imposed to be paid by the US public, so there isn't really a competitive disadvantage anymore. The only disadvantage is if they are higher than your competitors, which ours aren't. So right now, the only people being punished are the United States consumers. But they're too thick to actually know that it's them paying it, as somehow, he and Leavitt have convinced them that the selling country pays the tariffs Quote

On the plus side, he’s only 100% committed, and this is a guy that thinks you can reduce the price of something by 300% and still make money, so I doubt he knows what the fuck he means. Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 19 Posted January 19 The most stupid part of all this is simply why not make one of his famous trade deals, and get access to the minerals that way? As he America used to have with oil via their companies in Venezuela. A win-win surely? As for the military;they currently have around 150 personnel stationed there, which is a 99% drop from the 15000 they used to have there, following an agreement made in the '50s. Clearly it is really about security, but if it was, then they could just re-establish a bigger force. The former American serviceman I watch on YouTube has said for a while he thinks they will "go in" around June. I do think the bloke's absolute hatred for Trump, sometimes clouds his judgement a touch, but I suppose other NATO nations will be aware of the rationale behind that, and will be drawing up plans.. What are the chances of a shit load of Canadian and European ships lined up facing the US? Quote

Ruskies were onto social media a little while back. Inevitably giving it large, yet doing so is absolutely bizarre, as every one knows what they're up to, and the total bollocks of it. Russia is seriously fucked at the moment, and they will clutch at any straw possible. The orange puffer fish is providing them one of course. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Another factor is the mid-terms. IF they decided to have a pop, then doing so before these elections would be the obvious way, so as to get it done before they lose their fine majority in the house of representatives. Quote

Spider Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Usually it’s a chan cd e to pop on here and say “we told you so” as visionaries. But that’d be like claiming a win over a spider when you’ve just smashed it with your shoe. Even Bolty’s support is starting to waver. He’d never admit to be wrong of course, but if Trump carries on like this I can see the authorities in Washington starting to intervene because, fuck me. Quote

He said it's not about the minerals, it's about security. In that case, have as many troops there, but let Denmark keep all the mineral rights.... I don't think the second part is correct, Security is a nice cover for the mineral rights. 2 Birds = 1 Stone On the last bit, there'll be no conflict, no defence and no physical opposition. We cannot afford to have USA side with Russia and China and create alliances with them, though it does seem inevitable. The best thing we can hope for, is that he's no longer president in the next few months. Quote

I'm not convinced that will make a huge lot of difference. He's already got a private army of true believers in ICE. His own people in the FBI and holding the levers of power etc. And there will be plenty of others who share similar beliefs waiting in the wings when DT eventually steps down. Quote

The instability it could cause NATO is an absolute windfall for Putin, he couldn't do a better job at dividing and conquering himself if he tried! Listening to different experts talk about it, it does sound like NATO needed reform and for other members including us to pull our weight more which all this may help force, but hopefully not at the cost of its actual existence. I've always been pretty bullish about NATO and how it would fare in any conflict with Russia, but that's with the USA as its main player. Could have never imagined a possible world where it would all break apart, but theres a lot of things that have been happening that once would have seemed unthinkable. Unless we all just keep buying F-35's to keep him sweet... Quote
