If the ID required is free, that's perfectly fine. As long as it also includes transporting housebound people to get their photos taken, and assistance to fill in the forms etc.

No, I didn't moan about having to bring a match ticket to watch the match, and obviously an Election is more important than a Momentum meeting. You could be a professional point-misser.  Have you started drinking early again?

Don’t try to patronise fella, you haven’t the intellect or wit,  I’m up at five so only drinking Vimto.

So then, the free ID is ok for every occasion  ?

A straight yes or no please.

They asked members to bring their membership cards to a  members only meeting. Like you have to bring your match ticket when you go to a football match. It's hardly the same as denying someone a vote in an election if they can't afford to pay for a photo ID. Is it?

See now you’ve opened a can of worms. People may buy a child’s ticket for the match when in fact they’re not a child. The I.D. Could also be used in instances like this so that out beautiful club isn’t cheated out of much needed money.

Could you explain the question a bit more, because I have no idea what you mean?

Indeed it could. But we're talking about Parliamentary Elections, and I was using an analogy based on miami's idea that Voter ID is the same as attending a members only/ticketed event. Put the worms back in the can, or maybe you could start a thread on Terrace Talk about match ticket fraud if you're worried about it?

Sorry I thought it was you who brought up match tickets?

In response to miami bringing up a members-only Momentum meeting and equating it to a General Election ...

It's not difficult. If it's a members-only or ticketed event, only members or ticket holders are allowed to attend. In a Local or General Election, every single eligible voter should be allowed to vote, completely free of charge or hindrance.

Eligible is the key word here.

Those not eligible or eligible to vote multiple times can’t do if ID is brought in to play.

Simple fact.

Thanks for the key word Cheese, sleep well.

I agree. So as long as the ID required by this new policy is free, and the necessary support is provided to obtain it, I have no problem with it.

Make it so you can only get ID by applying online.

This will counter balance the skint labour voters not getting one with the coffin dodging blue rinse Tory voters who don’t know a computer from their arse.

For weeks now we've been hearing that Boris doesn't really want a deal.  Now, if gets a deal, we'll be hearing how crap it is.  There's bound to be lots of folk at both ends of the argument moaning about it. The majority of us in the middle will be glad to just move on at feckin last

They’ll just get their butlers to apply for them 😉

According to guardian these are three concessions Boris has made to get a deal with EU.

Concession No1. (most surprising)

The Level Playing Field is back. Boris Johnson has agreed that the UK must be in line with EU norms on climate, environment and workers’ rights for a Free Trade Agreement.

Concession No 2 (on the cards) Back to Northern Ireland only backstop. It’s not called the NI-only backstop, but the proposal of February 2018 (i.e. when EU suggested it). UK has accepted NI will be subject to EU customs rules and oversight of EU authorities, including ECJ.

Concession No 3 Consent.

Boris Johnson has abandoned DUP veto.  New system envisages allowing Stormont Assembly to vote whether rebranded backstop applies by simple majority of those present in chamber. First vote scheduled 4 years after entry into force.

Number one is great and I’d be far closer to backing a deal where the long term post transition aim was regulatory alignment. Number 2 has been well publicised. Number 3 - I suspect is problematic for unionists in NI. Given my understanding is they cannot command a simple majority were the assembly to sit they have as things stand no clear and effective veto. Which means they may feel they are at risk of being locked in again.

2 for four years NI is the ROI in all but name

Then, in theory, after 4 years, Stormont could decide they don't like it, but to do that they would need to get a majority against the arrangement

Lets say they did, and the technology solution which exists now but is such a secret we still don't want to tell anybody what it is, is still our little secret, then what, ffs?

A loyalist commentator on 5 earlier couldn't see how the DUP would buy this and if they didn't, how the ERG would accept it

I suppose we will see, soon enough, but that NI arrangement sounds far from a solution
