We're a nation that built itself on an empire that people are still feeling the advantages of to this day.

Be interesting to see how we get on going it alone now it's more of a level playing field.

Pretty sure the generations that had things handed to them on a plate will be the first one to blame the snowflakes for a lack of stiff upper lip if it all goes to shit.

You can apply the first comment to many a nation around the world.

Hardly unique to us.

I'm not so sure. I still think we've got this sense that there is some inherent racial advantage to being born and raised in Britain.

It's going to be damn hard work.

I can't agree with that wholly. Every nation will have its share of absolute nobbers- plenty of them turn up at the football- but having pride in your nationality isn't the same as believing you are racially superior.

We are very lucky to have been born in the UK, or it was part of our ongoing karmic growth.

Asked today by a Frenchman; what is the nicest part of England?

Its a shame plenty dont want others to share our good fortune, seeing as thats all it is

Luck, pure and simple

I always think that when it comes to immigration, when you see desperate families trying to get here or America it’s pure luck we were born in this country and are very fortunate.

I’m not suggesting we open the gates I understand immigration needs to be controlled but I feel a bit of guilt at being so fortunate at times.

We share with plenty hence 500k per year been arriving here over the last few years. Let’s not forget we are a 1/2 the size of the likes of France, immigration cannot continue at the levels they have been otherwise that good fortune won’t continue for future generations.

Really?

I don't, no one can help where they're born, and whilst we may be lucky, I don't feel guilty or embarrassed by it.

Can feel for those less fortunate, so suppose the best thing to do is make the best you can of things, and try not to fuck the planet whilst doing so.

I wonder what we'd get if we traded you with a Spaniard

Yeah I see on the news some kid trying to escape some shithole country to get a better life but denied I do feel guilt, and I think it is all down to luck where you are born

Christ, I wish I was born elsewhere.

Because your nationality is down to pure luck, is why I struggle with blind patriotism.

I'm not particularly proud to be British, this country's a clusterfuck right now.

Laughable

The belief we are any different than many other nations is soooooo 1950s

If that's addressed at me, exactly where did I say that?

Your sort make me laugh. Eager to point and 'celebrate' difference and diversity when it comes to allowing people from other countries to come to the UK but suddenly, when the equation is looked at from another perspective, we 'aren't any different to many other nations'.  There must be something different when so many risk life and limb to get to the UK illegally and don't want any part of staying in your beloved EU.

I said we had innate inventiveness, determination and sheer hard graft. I could probably list 20 countries (easily) with similar qualities.

You might try engaging brain and/or reading things more carefully before spouting your seemingly habitual bollocks.

It won't go to shit, end of. 'Handed on a plate'? I grew up in a council house in Tonge Moor after escaping a rat infested flat in Kay Street. You can have that fucking plate any time you want it.

It's hardly perfect, but could be much, much worse.

As I think we're about to find out.

Where do the EU stand on letting us back in, once we realise we're incapable of managing on our own?
