Quick scan of the relevant media outlets suggests Boris has given most of our fishing grounds away.

Captain Birdseye won’t be happy.

That was always going to happen, we don't want or need them in reality - they're worth more to the EU.

The exciting bit is that we'll be hearing about what they propose to do about the Irish border situation any day now

But fishing was a central pillar of the whole getting control back. Sovereign control of our land and maritime areas.

Might as well give Barnier the Malvinas at this rate.

There is also talk that we'll align with the EU on things such as workers rights, animal welfare and the environment which is a good thing I think we can all agree.......but here's the bit that isn't so good....if we wish to diverge from any of these standards in the future, we'll potentially have to go to an "adjudication body" who will decide if we can or not. That adjudication body is quite likely to be the European Court of Justice 😀

Of course, everything is hearsay at the minute, so we'll just have to wait a few more days until we find out what this excellent deal is

It was and it wasn't - it's such a small part of our GDP that nobody gives a fuck about it in reality. The fishing industry is the same as the red bus, it was just a sound bite, nothing more than that really.

I'm more than happy to let them have the same access to our waters that they have today, if it means we get a good free trade deal, because then at least we'll not be any worse off. There is no point in us surrendering the opportunity of a free trade deal, just so that we can we can boast we have access to more fish than we know what to do with.

I know that, you know that, but the more ruddy cheeked members of twitter were adamant that leaving was a way of getting all our haddocks back, which we could then sell to Pierre and Esteban for twice the price.

There will be sectors chucked under the proverbial red bus. Fishing will be one. I don’t care.
my sector will get a great deal. Will benefit both sides of the water massively and allow us to almost carry on as were.

as you say if it means the Spaniards et al can drop their nets and pillage our waters I could not give a fuck. Let them have it.

Don’t let the likes of Bolty hear you say that you treasonous pig.

Our navy has battled for hundreds of years to keep control of our waters, with countless brave soldiers giving their lives so that fishfingers have remained a cost effective choice of food for the British dinner table.

The seabeds of the Channel and the North Sea are littered with the bones or British mariners and giving control to the French is spitting in the eyes of their ancestors.

Traitor. Plain and simple.

Some interesting points there. Our new policy scraps the payments made by the eu to farmers to a far more environmentally beneficial system of payments.

Wonder how that squares in a 'level playing field' if we're starting along this path?

Does this mean we'll have to change the lyrics to Rule Brittania?

??? I do. Headhunted and bettering childrens future very true - certainly in my case. I still recall the telephone call on halloween in 1987. Thought it was some fucker winding me up most likely from the team I was playing for at the time.

Economic migrants from the usual places are exactly that - masquerading under the 'escaping persecution' banner.

Turn back the boats; save lives. They'll stop coming if they know there's no chance of getting through. Worked down here.

One for you m'dear. I know you appreciate the reggae dub beats x

Taking control doesn't preclude selling fish or indeed fishing rights does it?

How the seas are managed and protecting grounds and future business is the key part.

Mind, you know this in reality.

Lived in Peterhead for a little while. The oil lads and the fishermen were paid Thursdays, so Thursday nights were like the wild west.

Had some odd opening and shutting times in the pubs in Aberdeen, I suppose you could sup round the clock if you knew were to go.

yea that was mainly for the supply boat crews, some of the bars near the harbour were 24hrs, anyone coming off the rigs went straight to the train station via the off licence :-) .
