It's the surrounding infrastructure that goes with being one of the busiest airports on the planet. Going to have to tunnel the M25!!! Heathrow is in the wrong place but we keep making do Quote

We have the habit of making do... back in the 80s I did a refurb job at Longbridge, they were putting a production line in for a new model. I think it was the Maestro... you should have seen the shit hole that we had to convert, no wonder they had quality problems. Not far a way in Derby Toyota were building a completely new factory for their new models... Then there was Concorde... we built and tested ours from an ex-RAF hangar at Filton with some portacabins at the rear, what did the French do? They invested in a complete new factory and airfield which became the multi-billion Airbus Industries. We first flew our V Bombers and VC10 from a grass runway! Some Americans I worked with years ago cheekily referred to us as "nigger riggers" 😁 Build a new airport in the Thames Estuary just like the one in Hong Kong, cheaper and quicker in the long run and it will be on the right side of London for European and Asian flights Quote

Agreed to an extent, Eddie Stobart own it these days and they have a nice new terminal, however it is in a built up area.... we are talking of a new major hub with at least 4 nice long runways with open approaches over water straight in from Europe and Asia. Position it of the south side of the estuary and you already have a high speed train corridor into London. Quote
Casino Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 we could develop east mids, manchester or leeds and use the new hi speed rail link Quote
Dimron Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 EMA already is a major freight hub... DHL and Amazon have a big set up there with 24 hour ops. There is room to build an extra runway and expand the passenger traffic... but it isn't London is it? Not certain how much space there is at Leeds... I know it's on the top of a hill Quote
