Coincidentally we lost 1-0 almost exactly 3 years ago, to a worse Posh team than today's.  Our line up was Howard, Thorpe, Beevers, Wheater, Taylor, Wilson, Vela, Trotter, Ameobi, Madine, Clough.  Clearly we'd prefer to have those 2 centre backs, Ameobi and possibly Clough on form.  But Bridcutt would get in any Bolton team of recent times.  Madine is at best the equal of Murphy at this late stage of his career.  Darcy/Vela and Trotter/Murphy is much of a muchness.  For all our problems, our current team is no worse than the one we had that day and we have a better manager.

You say our current team is no worse, but you'd take the two centre backs and the two better creative players... which is a pretty significant part of any team for starters. And you've terribly underrated Madine and Vela's contributions at this level.

Today was not a good advert for your arguement either. We've conceded five or more in half a dozen games this year, and in none of those would we have defended worse than what we did today. From their goal until we abandoned five at the back was an embarrassment.

If talent-wise you're claiming we're as good as a promotion winning team, then serious questions would need to be asked about a performance like today (not to mention Accrington ffs). But we're clearly not, as is to be expected, so they get a pass from me.

The team doesn’t seem to have much fight in it I think even without the points deduction this lot would of still got relegated we had a purple patch when hill first came in and seemed to play with energy then Crawford got injured and it’s all gone to shit the defending is just awful even at this level

Apart from Howard, Beevers, Wheater ,Taylor, Vela (yes vela especially with  zack in team) Clough, Ameobi and Madine  yeah this team is better. Also helps if you have two strong centre backs, a midfield that can create at least a few chances and  an effective target man up front.  Stop kidding yourself, that team was miles better.

Not surprising given whats happened to the club but  lets be realistic

I'm certainly not saying this team is better, just surprised that player for player there's little difference to 3 years ago.  Better players then, as you say, were the 2 centre backs, Ameobi and Clough.  And you make a good point that they are very significant positions.  Madine's contribution was OK for what we needed, as is Murphy's, I'd back Murphy to take chances over Madine but some of Madine's hold up play is better.  Vela was good for a spell, but from what I saw last week Darcy will be better, but yes unproven so far. Howard was the worst keeper I've seen for us in years, pedestrian and flat footed who couldnt kick the ball beyond the half way line. Thorpe, Taylor, Wilson, Trotter wouldn't get in this Bolton team if I was picking it (not expecting people to agree, just my opinion).   The team that day wasn't a promotion winning team because no way would it go up without the likes of Morais, ALF, Spearing and maybe Henry, Deryk, Pratley, Karacan.

Not Howard or Taylor, on reflection yes Vela had a purple patch that season in front of goal.  Clough did Ok but only scored 6 goals that weren't pens, I'd back Dodoo to get 6 if played in that position.  I was just surprised that the line up at Peterboro was fairly poor that day.

Anyway, no rant after all

But how the bollocks it makes sense having bricutt stood next to the keeper is beyond me

He neds to be passing it in their half, not ours

And why wright didnt play is also puzzling

The defence seems all over the place and im pretty sure its because it changes every week

Despite all this, i quite enjoyed the game, we were in it til the end

But that train journey and the british railways can fuck right off

Cancellations and delays all over the place

All those players that joined on deadline day must have something wrong with them to be joining a basket  case.As the lad from Leigh said if Verlinden had a heart he'd still be at Stoke. In  Bridcutt's case, he's been here 3 months and been out injured twice, I think he'd be playing centre half rather than midfield due to either his own injury problems or other defenders injury problems

Did Bridcutt lose a tooth at one point?

Shame we only really turned up for the second half.

A bit of a theme. A weird change at accy, a necessary change last week against Wimbledon, and another odd set up and necessary change yesterday.

Can we just get it right from the off.

Left Manchester at ten to 9, got to Peterborough at ten past 2. Farcical. None of my mates were up for it so my girlfriend came with me. Looking like it might be the same for Sunderland. Had a good laugh anyway and the 2nd half was encouraging. Great support. Fuck the trains.

Coachload of us for Sunderland, might be a spare place or two?

After playing some good stuff when KH arrived we have now reverted back into our shell. OK injurys, a paper thin squad and playing our best player as a roaming, defensive centre-half-midfielder doesn't help, but the second half at Pboro shows we can take it to the best in the division if we choose too.

reading the piece on bridcutt

if it was felt the only way to get him on the pitch was to play him at the back, fair enough

not sure how it works, but the pros should know best

Not for me. He was exposed there at Accrington wasn't he.

If he's not fully fit for midfield, rest him until he is.

Didn't see the posh performance, but it seems really odd keep messing around with your back line. Is it a coincidence that we've gone a bit shit defensively.
