Yeah

I just think its fanciful to think that for 2 weeks everybody is not going to be in a position to spread this thing

Its an idea often suggested by people who have no need to leave their home to work

But aren’t the government still espousing the need for us to take a holiday in UK? Take all your kids away to Bridlington for a few days R&R.

Sturgeons gone and ruined Esco’s Friday night

I can see the same restrictions coming in for the North of England within a few days as well  -  fingers crossed they'll leave us alone in the Shires, but I worry we'll be forced into lockdown as well. Never mind, I'm all for it if it helps knock this thing on the head

As it happens I’m actually just walking into the Wellington on Bolton rd for a couple of afternoon pints so that will soften the blow temporarily

In the last week daily cases in the UK have risen by 58%. At the same rate, unchecked, we will be at 48,000 in 5 weeks. That’s just simple maths. It’s not politics, it’s not project fear.

This was 2 weeks ago when people were questioning the graphs by the experts. My calculations would have had us on 12,000 cases today. It’s actually over 14,000.
Again, unchecked, they will reach the figures forecast by Witty and Vallance.

Aren’t we due at 49,000/day by 13.10?

I'm out at the moment

Sure they said 50,000 by mid October. My calculation, not prediction, was 5 weeks. Whether it’s mid or end of October, is irrelevant. Cases are rising exponentially.
Any government, anywhere in the world (maybe not US) cannot ignore that forecast/prediction/projection.

At current rate, won't we be at around 50,000/day by about 25.10? - So when they (Witty & Valance) were apparently just trying to "terrify" the country......they were actually only a couple of weeks out.

I'm sure Peely will be along soon, to give accurate numbers, as I'm trying to remember what I heard on LBC earlier (when I wasn't really paying attention) 🙂

The Whitty numbers were based on no action being taken weren’t they???

Action has been taken and the numbers aren’t all that far behind.

Ipso facto, they weren’t exactly scaremongering. Just covering themselves.

Ive no issue with it.

That said, Covid accounts for 3% of all current hospitalisations, so we can afford to go at this rate for now and not start locking down any more than we have.

Thats cos its full of coffin dodgers

If I was a funeral director I’d be out there handing out leaflets

241 deals, will arrangements, house removal

Measuring tape in my top pocket, sample book of fabrics of coffin linings in my hand

I’d clean up

I haven’t seen anyone rolling out that graph showing how wrong the prediction was for a while now. I wish they were.

Yep. Even Andrew Neil, who I have a lot of respect for, has gone quiet on the matter. The government will act on the scientific advice. I can understand people having reservations about politicians. If we start to doubt the chief medical and scientific advisors, then we may as well just listen to Piers Morgan or any other celebrity chancer with a Twitter account.

Schools sending kids home seems to have calmed down

Herd immunity for the kids?

Kids dont tend to show symptoms.

Year 7/8/9 seem to be unscathed in most schools,

10 and 11 are the worst hit from that I can see.

It's those pesky teachers catching it from asymptomatic kids thats the issue!

Maybe, but I think some of the schools are making a grand job of implementing strict controls.

My brother is a site manager at one, and I've seen their stash of hand sanitiser. Enough to blow a small crater in the grass I reckon. :)

Well pubs shut at 10

But now a percentage of folk queue en masse outside offies, and go home for house parties

So nowts changed really

The numbers have just slowed down, but the percentage doing the same thing means we'll get there in the end

Other than a 10pm curfew what action has been taken?

I was thinking more about the general measures such as masks, social distancing.

Their figures assumed normal life I think?

I would assume it was "as things stand" at the point they made the graph

Hence the curfew
