At least the teacher can look at the individual and make a judgement on their ability. It’s not perfect but way better than a computer model that unfairly discriminates based on the school you attend. This was always going to adversely affect the less well off pupils in society.

Surely an average of mocks and teachers expected grades would of sufficed, algorithm who they kidding? Just a cunning plan to allocate number of  kids to uni places available and fuck the kids off from piss poor postcode areas.

We do know though.  It’s obvious and should have been changed before any results were released.

That wasn’t my point, which you knew.

Possibly, though moderation is always used, and by removing it entirely, potentially discriminates against those of previous years, and moreso next year.

A proper functioning algorithm/system that doesn't produce such ridiculous, and spurious results in some cases, and a properly prepared appeals procedure wouldnt have seen such scenes.

We've had each nation in the UK adopting a similar approach, and then go back on it, which suggests the method is consistently harsh, so its seems surprising that it wasn't recognised as such earlier and modified accordingly.

It was. That’s why Williams is a lying bastard pretending he didn’t know until the weekend. Course he fucking did.

It wasn’t a problem with the algorithm. Like I said before it’s a societal problem.

Private schools with small class size benefitted. That’s exactly what happen with exams too. The algorithm reflected education within our society.

Couldn't have been more "Tory" if they'd tried.

Hmm

I much preferred the old grammar school, direct grant world, which gave people like me the chance.

A Tory government is not going to let a load of scum buckets from the estates of Greater Manchester get a freebie into Oxbridge.

The government have fucked it up but given that this seems to be their default position for most major decisions at the moment, it means they don’t need to sack anyone for being piss poor since that’s where they’ve set the performance bar.

At least 10 days

It was renewed last week

Burnham was quoted earlier saying he hoped they could ease some things by the weekend. I think we're on weekly reviews not 3 weekly.

You did.

Plus, can you imagine what unions/press etc would have made of it.

Was that what forced their hand?

How do you know Mick?

Don't get me wrong, I'm inclined to agree, but we don't know for sure.

He's claimed he was assured by offqual that a similar scenario to Scotland wouldn't occur. Now, of course, "he would say that wouldn't he", but as yet I've not heard anyone at offqual rebuff the claim.

Strangely, whilst in Scotland and watching their news, it was said, that a rumour was doing the rounds that a similar thing would happen down here. They even said around 40% lowered.  This comment was made a week before the results came out down here.

Now, given the controversial nature of these results, I'm sure these rumours would have been out much earlier had it been widely known. North of the border, they've been hammering John Swinney for some time because they knew what would likely happen. Williamson not so much, so it may be possible that less was known about the situation down here.

That of course would lead to the question, should he have enquired more deeply into what England's situation would actually be like, to be more proactive maybe.

Possibly, dunno.

For exams to be sat in May as normal, teachers etc would have wanted more assurances over the safety beforehand, and I don't see how anyone could have given them enough, as some are still unsure about going back now, with some union noise too.

It's a bit of a myth. Maybe in the days of yore, but not now.

Thought it was fortnightly

Anyway, this insistence from burnham to treat all authorities the same is dogshit

Hasn't he said otherwise this morning or yesterday?

Something about good authorities like Wigan being given less stringent measures.

ahh, maybe

Ive not been keeping up

8 think thats maybe cos he has come under pressure from folk seeing the possibility the dicks in oldham and blackburn shut the whole area down
