Mutated strain of the virus found in Malaysia.

More infectious but apparently less fatal.

Was she downgraded, or not much change?

Lad's got his gcse exams next year. Lost months of school and may lose more. Hearing exams may be sat a little later, but no change to their content/difficulty.

More choppy waters ahead potentially.

Not potentially, definitely. Next year will be even more complicated than this. Trust me.

My nipper is same boat.

Wonder what the government are going to change their minds about today?

Doesn’t matter. Made of Teflon these fuckers. God knows how bad you have to fuck up before you  resign/get sacked.

And Williamson is lying his fucking arse off. Wonder if he’s swearing on his kid’s life this time.

I presume they will narrow the content in the exams. Not sure how the remaining parts of the curriculum can be shoehorned into the reduced time otherwise.

It needn't be too complicated, if they'd use a bit of common sense, stop bitching about each other and accept that some difficulty and difference will be inevitable.

Convinced people forget there is a pandemic going on.

Apologies if its already been covered but this eat out thing, I've not cooked anything for nearly two weeks. Its cheaper than doing the weekly shop at the moment, if Covid doesn't get me, heartburn or gout will!

And of course teachers have inflated the grades. They are notoriously shit/generous at predicting grades.

Hell of a computer program that sorts out who was predicted an A* because they deserved an A* from those who were predicted a B when they ought to have had a C.

There ain’t such a program. If a teacher said you deserve an A* you just get given an A*.

Also, teacher predicted grades aren’t collected in England but they do in Scotland. Every year they are way higher than the actual grades. This was always going to happen and the algorithm was an attempt to stop this.

Algorithm my arse. Predicted grades by teachers who have actually taught the students and know more than anyone the grades they were capable of,was always going to be the fairest method - under the current circumstances.

Possibly, though moderation is always used, and by removing it entirely, potentially discriminates against those of previous years, and moreso next year.

A proper functioning algorithm/system that doesn't produce such ridiculous, and spurious results in some cases, and a properly prepared appeals procedure wouldnt have seen such scenes.

We've had each nation in the UK adopting a similar approach, and then go back on it, which suggests the method is consistently harsh, so its seems surprising that it wasn't recognised as such earlier and modified accordingly.

So, more kids are going to uni than should be.

Clearly, trusting the teachers to grade isn't the right solution.

We shouldn't have allowed teachers and their unions to stop teaching, and gone ahead with exams, which are a proven, least-worst method of testing.

Been chasing Scottish Power to put Smart Meters in since I joined them 6 months ago

Apparently nearly all of the Engineers are on Furlough, apart from emergency appointments

For their own safety apparently

Fuck knows why tax payers money is going towards this lot at home when they could easily be self isolating in my garage changing the meter over

Bonkers

One mon on the news the other day said similar.

Maybe if the authorities knew then what they do now exams might still have gone ahead.

Was never going to happen at the time in mid lockdown.

That really is bonkers.

What do they propose to do when furlough finishes?

I said at the time schools shouldn't close, so not with the benefit of hindsight.

Mine was booked for April, they cancelled it, without reason, IMO. They are chasing me now; I never wanted one anyway. Bollocks to em.

I've hardly attacked or defended decision makers in this crisis, I don't think.

Happy to be proved wrong.

But much better than an algorithm which regards the school you happen to attend as a more important factor than your teachers opinion.

It still depends on which school you go to, or rather which teacher grades you. Because all teachers will not grade the same way. Some will be more optomistic, some will be more realistic. Every school treats Mocks in a different way.

ie - Teacher A: Billy, if he gets lucky could get an A*, his parents have assured me that he will revise better than he has ever done. - I'll grade him A*

Teacher B: Billy, I would realistically expect to be a B, A, or A* if he fets lucky with the questions and revises well. I'll grade him B.

Do the teachers still get performance related pay based on kids exam results ?

Given the circumstances, would anyone have been that arsed if these kids were marked / rounded up for the sake of getting the results out

Seems bizarre to have thought an algorithm that brought grades down so substantially would have ever have been accepted
