Site Supporter Winchester White Posted September 3, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted September 3, 2021 Possible plans to increase NI to allow for more funding of social care. BBC News - National Insurance: Minister says social care must be properly funded amid tax hike claims https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58430364 Talks of 1% or 2% increase. Not sure if that would be enough but would you support such an increase?
Escobarp
Absolutely yes I would. as I would support a tax increase for those who’ve sponged off the government to repay furlough monies as well

I’d hate for folk to be out of pocket to pay back what they never had in the first place.
Big E
Surely all the money raised from IR35 means it’s not needed? Or was that just bollocks they said to bring it out

Moderators Carlos Posted September 3, 2021 Moderators Share Posted September 3, 2021 As usual, those of us that pay all our taxes subsidising cunts who pay themselves dividends from their own shell companies.
Site Supporter Spider Posted September 3, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted September 3, 2021 The pandemic doesn’t need paying for, that’s a myth. They just printed more money. Lorry drivers are getting 30% pay rises, which will of course end up pushing prices higher on pretty much everything. Always happy to pay my way, and if this is for social care then fair enough. Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted September 3, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted September 3, 2021 Yes. Folk living longer, care has to be funded, so we should pay a little more for it. Must be ring-fence though, so it doesn't dribble away into other things.

Site Supporter MickyD Posted September 3, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted September 3, 2021 Here’s another thing; if they put NI or tax up under the guise of the increases paying towards social care, will they stop taking the houses from those going in care to pay for social care? Seems bollocks when those who have paid to own a house the whole of their working life get penalised when those renting, either privately or through social housing don’t. Whitestar
Its a great idea, most of the people that use adult social care services are people that have contributed absolutely nothing to the national insurance system. Whitestar
Not on about old people that have made an effort coz most of the services they might need to access are means tested anyway. Just the majority of 3 generations of sick lame & lazy that expect everything coz they CBA.

Dimron
Typical Tory. Their core support pay themselves PAYE just below the NI limit and then take the rest as dividend... I've done it myself in the past. Therefore the increase only has an effect on the ordinary working bloke. The only fair to do it is a VAT increase, everyone and every business buys stuff according to their affluence... and getting to grips with those spaceman billionaires who avoid taxes by operation globally. Tax them to fuck is what I say. Not sure about a 3rd party health etc. insurance because they are all run by shareholders who in the end rape the profits. Government should always step in here. Tax the luxuries, I don't think we are a million miles away from each other here
Members Lt. Aldo Raine
The shortfall in the adult social care budget shouldn't be covered by an increase to a tax the overwhelming majority of the people who require it don't pay. Site Supporter Spider Posted September 3, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted September 3, 2021 The rich need to be taxed more efficiently. Bottom line, raising taxes only causes massive issues for those nearer the bottom. For a short while, I paid myself a pound below the next tax bracket. Why not? Why pay myself more to end up with less? higher VAT on BMW’s , Mercs, expensive wine, stone island clothing etc etc would soon see the treasury bursting at the seams. If you can afford these things, you won’t mind.
