What a test.

I’m hoping, rather than expecting, there will be little criticism after that.

I genuinely don’t know what point criticism will have after that. Do you not think all the  risky moments/decisions are obvious and will have been considered and will be analysed by Stokes/McCullum?  Bairstow selection, declaration, bowling selections, missed catches, not taking new ball etc

They don’t need Amateurs on their back with shoulda, coulda, woulda’s. Easy as fuck from your arm chair/seat/press box

This approach will win us and lose us tests .

What entertainment - it’s set up to be a memorable series.

Here we go….

Have you not learned yet!

The usual suspects...

Anyway, several missed opportunities in both batting and bowling that will inevitably mean questions will be asked, and that is fair enough.

Maybe some reflection and discussions within the camp.

We were very close but fair play to the Aussies- they were never out of it and showed quality and grit despite our new approach.

Cracking game and good advert for test cricket- just hope we can make those little improvements to win the next.

Good post.

Yes I’m all for Stokes and McCullum making the tweaks and discussing variations/options when faced with a similar situation again.

Who knows, that declaration may actually have put us in the best position to win that test and they may even do that again.  Putting them on the back foot, taking early wickets the morning after, taking the game to them - it didn’t work this time, but how much of that was down to very close missed chances, rather than the early declaration?

I think being open minded in discussions and looking at why they did the things they did and positively how it gave us a great chance to beat the Aussies is a better way of analysing, rather than lazily and negatively claiming the unusual/aggressive tactics lost us the game and its all doom and gloom.

Still think it odd we lost 2 wickets under floodlights but I still don't understand it all if I am honest. Enjoyed it though despite the loss.

I've had TMS on in the background for the full 5 days, and still don't have a fucking clue what went on. I'm determined to understand it one day.

There were big question marks over whether it was really light enough to play imo

Still, we had the opportunity to win it today and couldn't do it so we can't complain too much

Yep, all this, shouldn’t have declared. We may have batted on scored another 30-40. Who knows. But then the game would have been pushed back and we may have witnessed the Aussies falling 40 runs short but with 4 wickets in hand this evening.

For all of our missed chances - the Aussies can counter that and say - look at both Smith and Labuschagne’s failures. That won’t happen again in this series.

Its been a great listen. The lass they have on certainly knows her onions.

All ifs buts a maybes innit.

Bairstow clearly isnt fit and Foakes is by far a better wicket keeper. Fuck knows how you fit both in as you dont want to lose Bairstow from the order.

Wood digs you out of a hole too. But again he's only taking Broad or Jimmys place.

Wait until we start resting players 🙄

All part of the plan I would imagine.

Getting Wood in at some stage with some added pace would surely make sense would it not?

And as fantastic as Anderson is, at 40, there will be tests he’s rested for this summer - they’ve said this and they’ve done this previously in recent series’

Poor effort Mr Horwich - armchair amateur expert.

Lets see how many players the Aussies rested.

We played our best x1 in the first test for a reason.

Yeh because Jimmy was fit and rested, Moen was fresh and didn’t have a gammy finger, Bairstow was back and injury free, Stokes’ back/knees were tested, let’s hope they last the course.

All of those could conceivably and understandably miss tests for injury/resting/rotation purposes.

Oh and I’d be amazed if Starc wasn’t given a test at some point - bloody Aussies, just wait til they start resting players 🙄

🤣

Right, so you’ve moved on and now seem to accept that rotation is part of modern sport - I’ll take that 👍

I don’t think your other obvious point needs much discussion.

I meant "Cricket" in general. I didn't have a clue what they were talking about most of the time. 😁
