Pathetic, Stokes is the only wicket you can argue was a decent delivery that caught him out. Everyone else has just gifted their wickets playing unnecessary shots.

Australia were always going to be a stern test of this approach, but we had a chance and in a morning session we throw it all away.

The ridiculous thing is that it really doesn't matter that much, as we play for them every 2 years. The should be doing it every 4 or 5 years, so that it actually means something

Then there would only be a home series every 8 years. We play other nations more frequently than that.

Not getting into the batting, its a wip

But their pace attack is very good and i think we are getting there with a plan to deal with em

Our bowlers are much of a muchness atm

All a few mph down on the aussies and no spinner

Speaking of which, its all gone to shit for Parky at Lancs

Listening to all the pros, Cook, Langer, etc today. They cannot believe our approach to the game last night or this morning. Irrespective of Bazball, you cannot score runs from the dressing room. Everyone one of the pundits has said that with no Lyons, their fast bowlers would have run out of steam hitting the ground hard and bouncing the ball at us. All we had to do was avoid hitting it. But no, we had to go after it and we fall apart.

Even thought Stokes was done by a great ball, he’s been a walking wicket and not much use with the ball so far in this series. Really hope there’s a monumental innings/bowling spell in him tomorrow and Sunday. He needs to dig deep to find it again.

Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say we have been beaten by a better team.

England, currently, are not a great test team.

Painful summer.

West Indies in the winter has maybe come at a good time.

I made the point much earlier in the thread, I’m a big fan of Bazball. Innovators in sport get to where they want to be with self belief, commitment to the plan and strategy, a freedom to play and perform and play at their best and by blocking out external noise - I hope they are able to continue doing this.

Prior to this approach the England test team were very poor, tentative, nervous, playing without a plan and purpose, trying to play the test game like it’s been played from day one the “way it should be played”.

They needed something different and this is what it is. It’s brilliant, exciting, entertaining.

That said it’s been needlessly reckless at times. Sort it in house with a calmness and reassurance.

I said we’d lose at the beginning, that this approach might win us a test, possibly two. We are playing the best in the world, they were always going to find ways of countering it. That short ball treatment for an hour was our downfall - brilliantly executed by the Aussies

I get it’s going to cause some criticism. But let’s ensure the reaction is relatively proportionate to the situation we are in.

This approach was always going to be tested this series. We just have to go away and become better at executing it in the future.

And that might not be immediately, there’ll be more bumps in the road I guess.

We don’t play WI in tests this winter?

What’s this passage of play about? Playing for a draw? Aussies will be content to bat as long as.

It’s fascinating.

The rule book for test cricket has been thrown out of the window!

So the short ball - do you attack it and lose wickets like we did, or defend it scoring 16 runs of 12 overs and lose wickets?

Will they declare in time to get in a few overs late in the day?

Their lead is already substantial and unless England find a way of playing the bounce better and get boundaries - high risk attack - the scoring rate won't be enough to overhaul the Aussies anyway.
