He mentioned nothing about talent, though, other than to acknowledge their players would be more talented than ours. In your response to his post you wrote "If you think League 1 players should be as fit and talented as Premier League players, you need to sit down and have a think". It seemed a bit unecessary to criticise him for something he hadn't stated.

He signed him last summer and then signed a new first choice 19 year old keeper in January Then re-signed him again this summer Dixon will probably play in the PJ cup too But he's not getting a sniff of first team action again unless trafford gets injured or suspended He basically had half a season to prove himself, but didn't Last night changes nowt

Nobody suggested he was ready for the first team. You obviously don't trust Evatt's judgement, which is fine. Johnnyrotten
There's a definite consensus that Dixon kept the score down, and he definitely made some decent saves. In that context, its surprising to read some comments that the result flattered Villa. Dixon made many good saves, their keeper made none that I can recall. They had 2 goals disallowed (Ings, Watkins), and hit the post (Ings). I was happy to get away with a 3 goal defeat, no criticism of us but the gulf in terms of creating chances was huge. We played some great stuff but it didn't result in shots on goal, that's the reality and to some extent its reflected in league games, one area that needs to improve. If Evatt had written him off, he wouldn't have played last night. Edit: Ignore @Casino. Crossed wires. I do trust Evatts judgement, I think it's obvious what he thinks regards Dixon He gave him 6 months as our number one, then decided to bring someone else in Same as he did with Crellin the season before when he sacked him off in favour of gilks And both times we were better off for the change As for being ready for the first team, Don't forget he's 28 and IE worked with him at Barrow, he thought he might be good enough to be a league one keeper IE has clearly changed his mind He gets cup games, that's it Like most second string keepers at every club do Not sure what their is to dispute there It's quite clear he doesn't rate him as our number one keeper anymore
Traf
Dixon made some decent saves and kept the scoreline down, but you'd expect your keeper to make those saves. He was weak on the first goal, didn't have to challenge Ings (who was offside btw) on the penalty and lost his bearings on the third. I'll not be unhappy if he doesn't play another meaningful first team game for us.

bromers
I’d much prefer to see Luke Hutchinson starting in the Papa John’s Trophy games. He always seems get rave reviews in the B team games, sounds like a very good prospect.

Site Supporter MickyD Posted August 25, 2022 Site Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2022 Looking back at some of our previous keepers, I wonder if it’s a case of doing all they need to on the training ground but bottle it in front of a few thousand spectators. A bit like stage fright. You’re never going to be at your best if all you can think of is your own vulnerability.
