I think when we meet better opposition the players will perform far better, we just looked stuck in second gear until the changes then once we scored we completely bossed it. The game against Everton on Tuesday will tell but other than George who’s been outstanding so far, I’m struggling to see who will make IE’s preferred starting eleven?

Will be another 2 or 3 signings by then so nobody can do that yet

It's pre season, let's get through to the start of the season without any more injuries, a few more added, and that's success. Judge players after 5-10 games. Hopefully Victor can get a few goals to give him a bit of confidence but I wouldn't be putting to much emphasis on pre season.

Back three and keeper looked well drilled considering they are just getting to know each other. Midfield four also seemed to know their jobs and the new right midfielder looked to push up when he came on, albeit against 10 men. The front three however all look as if they are just carrying out the roles they have been given and do not seem to gel/communicate. If they can develop a but of understanding between themselves and the midfield then things should be fine as they all have enough individual ability to perform at this level.

We bossed it against 10 men including "triallist" and even then our strikers seemed to make the same runs and get in each others way. Wasn't much fluency on display so we have a lot of improving to do. Just wondered if the lack of tempo and erratic passing was psychological because I've seen those players do a lot better. You'd think with the strong possibility of incoming players they'd all be on it to compete for places. George and Williams certainly were but quite a few looked complacent.

Aye.

Get worried if it's shit part way into the season

See I don’t buy this it’s only pre season you can get a general feeling based on these performances imo

Williams & young George being examples they’ve kicked on think I heard Williams taking yesterday how important pre season is for him

the bar is getting raised in terms of opposition this week so let’s see how we go

You make a good point. You can’t have the same people saying Thomason and Williams have made themselves a good case for the starting 11 because of their pre-season form, but let’s not worry about Vic as it’s only pre-season.

I just think there’s a bit of middle ground when it comes to pre-season form. Experience should tell everyone results mean little.

And nobody should be over-hyped or written off based on pre-season form.

There’s been far too much of each extreme on the socials this “summer”

He’s been given quite a bit of time hasn’t he Coleman? What did he look like?

Yeh I’m expecting Baxter there on Tuesday.

Both games he hasn’t had much on (hence maybe give him more game time), bad clearance for the Salford goal but traff made them.

looks steady enough but possibly Baxter next 2 then make call

I don’t think Coleman’s been really tested so far but to be honest he still doesn’t fill me with confidence. I don’t know why exactly but for some reason he doesn’t look the part so I’m hoping Baxter will get a chance in the next couple of games so we can see how he does.

Fully accept that Casino, it is early days and I’m not so much judging him just passing an opinion that to me personally he hasn’t looked the part of a No1. I know Baxter was signed for that and to be fair he does look the part to me but only time will tell and hopefully we’ve got two good ones.

Gloves, different strip to others, rarely ventures from the penalty box, how much more like a No 1 can he look? 🤣

Thomason has shown himself good enough previously for me, and his pre season form is no surprise.

If might also be possible that both players are trying particularly hard as they weren't regulars last season and want to be so (which would be a good thing).

The situation doesn't change though; it's still pre season, and it's what we do when we start proper that counts.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the standard of opposition improves and we get closer to the start, maybe the players will gradually up their levels as fitness grows.
