From my very earliest days as a white..... I was born under the Lever end

:Dย the 1969 version.

"Boots were made for kickin',

And that's just what they'll do,

You come in the Lever End

We'll kick fuck out of you"

Gentler times.

For me there was nothing better than ย

โ€œWe all agree, Franky Worthy is magicโ€ ย sung in the late Seventiesย

I only went to about 6 games a year 76 to 79 but I only recall hearing "We all agree, Bolton Wanderers are magic" (sounded fantastic) and the Worthy song was the usual "Oh Franky Franky, Franky Franky Franky Franky Worthington" (to the tune of Oh Tony Tony, Tony Tony Tony Tony Philliskirk, later to be adopted for Sammy Sammy Allardyce and previously Wanky Wanderers by the opposition; bizarrely adopted by our fans in last 20-ish years).ย

;Anybody remember the old one

Twas on that famous Saturday the merry month of May

We all went down to Wembley to watch the Wanderers play

And when that day was over and when that day was done

We'd beaten Man United by 2 goals to none

ย

I can';t remember the full lyrics

Me. Some of it.

"Twas in the year of '58

The merry month of May

We all went down to Wembley to see the Wanderers play,

We played the Munich bastards and we beat them two to nil,

Five to three the teams come out,

We're ready for the kill.

Na,na,na,na........."

Twenty minutes later Gregg and Lofthouse met

Gregg took a tumble the ball was in the netย

If the game today had been in the 1980s there would certainly have been a chant or two of:

"Burn your bungalow down .. Taff" to the tune of (erm) Rolf Harris "Tie me kangaroo down sport"

A Lever End classic to this tune:-

ย

"There's a crack up in the ceiling

And the Stretford End is leaking

Georgie Best has got no money

He only plays because he's funny

ย

What are we living for

To see United in division four"

ย

Can't remember the last two lines of the chorus or the verse that follows.

Sorry if it's elsewhere but I used to love

๐ŸŽถI'm a knock-kneed chicken

I'm a bow legged hen.

I ain't had a wank since I don't know when.

I walk with a squiggle, and I talk with a squawk.

Doing the Burnden ... boot walk.

Aaaaah, nah-nah nah na-na-na

Nah-nah nah na.

Na-na nah na-na nah.ย Nah-nah nah na.

Doing the Bolton ... boot walk.๐ŸŽถ*

& I didn't even have any boots !

*Other lyrics are available.

At the end of it there would be a lot of jumping about & quite painful kicking out on the Lever End.ย  It was adapted from this ( which is terrible !! ).............

A gang of lads came over and asked us where we from.

Somebody shouted Bolton'

How does a new chant get adopted?
Often wondered.

Somebody comes up with a chant, maybe shares it with a couple of mates and then what? The four of them start singing it in a packed crowd and hope that others pick up on it?
ย

Or do they evolve? Some of the chants in the early days especially were quite complicated with verses etc so itโ€™s not as though folk could repeat them after a first run through.

A lot of ours seem nicked/adapted from other clubs.

Remember a mate coming up with one at an away game and trying to get folk in the pre match pub to adopt it but it never caught on.

Anyhoo, I reckon we need something rousing to remind everyone - including our current players - of our proud history perhaps referencing David Jack, Sir Nat, 4 FA cups and other famous victories.

Has anyone here ever witnessed the birth of a new chant that was adopted by the fans?
