barryk32 Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Welcome to Film 2012 with Barry Norman k32 First film of the year to been seen is http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt1210166/ Moneyball. I've had it for a bit but a film about Baseball didn't really inspire me to put over 2 hours of my life to one side. What a mistake that was! Its excellent, it could have been about any sport at all so the baseball bit is really just a backdrop (although a true story). In fact whilst watching I couldn't help but draw comparisons to our own club during the Fat Sam era. Quote
Electric Gretar Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Watched Colombiana t'other neet, good filum, definitely worth a watch. 8/10 from me. Quote

Zico Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 The finest black and white films of recent years is The White Ribbon. A must-see. I cannot recommend it highly enough. An absolute breath of fresh air to have something so simple be so utterly brilliant. An absolute fucking masterpiece. well that took me by surprise very good, bizarre whilst probably real at the same time (I don't mean the story as such, but the way the characters are) also recently seen Cowboys and Aliens (good till the aliens turn up) The Next 3 days - so so Ironclad - so so but gory as Quote
Boothy Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Going watching the Yank remake of Dragon Tattoo tonight. Quote
Smiley Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Watched the "9/10 blockbuster of the year last night"..... SUPER 8. A great film that half way through went totally shit. What a waste. Quote
SpiritofBurnden Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Did anyone see 'Fifty Dead Men Walking' on Film Four the other night? Decent film about an IRA informant. Edited January 8, 2012 by SpiritofBurnden Quote
Smiley Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Did anyone see 'Fifty Dead Walking' on Film Four the other night? Decent film about an IRA informant. Saw it on a flight a few years back, quite enjoyed it. Watched "LET ME IN" last night. A Hammer vampire film. Very dark. But quite good. Dragged on a bit, but worth a watch. Anyone seen the remake of "THE THING"... got a copy and wondered if it was worth the effort. Quote
SpiritofBurnden Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 'Let The Right One In' is a pretty good vampire film if you haven't seen it. Quote
pato Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) The THING movie I think is a prequeal there is a remake however with Pingu out there Edited January 8, 2012 by pato Quote
jazza Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 These are the recent films I've watched Most, if not all of these have been covered in this thread but here's my take on them: TT3d. Close to the edge ---- as I said in my other thread, simply the best sport related film i've ever seen... haven't felt emotion like that watching a film for years, if ever! 10 out of 10 Existenz---- Decent watch about a computer game designer and her game, not really my thing but ok 7 out of 10 Senna--- Documentary style fime about the great drivers life and demise, worth a watch! He was a special man and driver 7 out of 10 Apollo 18--- Sack of shit. waste of a couple of hours of breathing 3 out of 10 Schindlers List--- Top quality film that has to be watched at some point in your life 8 out of 10 Moneyball--- Great film set in Oakland about baseball but could be in any field of life where someone stands up for their beliefs 7 out of 10 Horrible Bosses--- Quite funny in parts and has to be watched to see Jennifer Anison! 6 out of 10 American Psycho--- Maybe wasn't in the best frame of mind to watch it but didn't get into it at all (will give it another try sometime) 3 out of 10 Matchstick Men--- really enjoyed it. Not the best plot in the world but entertaining 7 out of 10 The Inbetweeners Movie--- Absolute class! You have to watch the 3 series first but in a stupid way it's brilliant 9 out of 10 True Grit (2010)-- Not bad but not as good as the original 5 out of 10 Ghost Ship--- Absolute undiluted shite 2 out of 10 Quote
Smiley Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Anyone seen Rise of the Planet Apes? Yes. It was quite good. Took the kids to cinema a while back. Expected it to be a pile of shit. But didn't fall asleep once. Quote
L/H White Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Yes. It was quite good. Took the kids to cinema a while back. Expected it to be a pile of shit. But didn't fall asleep once. Gonna watch it with the younger brother now. Quote

MickyD Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Briliant film, lump in the throat at the end, 'Ceaser is home' is 'lump in the throat' mon-speyk for 'I cried'? Quote
Big City Girl Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Ghost Ship--- Absolute undiluted shite 2 out of 10 I remember watching this with my Mum and Sister. She'd finally got her 2 young uns in bed and we switched the film on, the opening scene showed a deck full of partiers - looked innocent enough, then my sisters youngest came down to ask for water, just as the entire crowd on deck got sliced in half by a huge mast wire - nice!!!!
