Leyther_Matt Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Best mon for the job. Nobody will give a shit about stereotypes if it means beating the Aussies. Quote

Had various bets that all essentially revolves around a comfortable Saints win. Good job it’s all going to be off for a few months. Less so for the bookies. Didn’t go to the Leigh game but sounded agonising to be 19-18 up with 20 seconds left and end up losing. And, on that one, another £20 that I have donated to William Hill. Quote
Underpants Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 Just watched a documentary (bbc red button) on the "watersplash" Leeds Vs Wakefield challenge Cup final from '68, the Don Fox match. Really good watch. One thing I noticed about the match was that defending players were blatantly trying to kick the ball out of the attacking players hands when they were in the act of passing it back after the tackle. Was this legal back then bacause the ref didn't blow. Quote

Similarly, having watched the Wigan-Hull final of ‘85(?) the other day, you could actually play the ball to yourself in those days. Quote

ErnestTurnip Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 If someone was sloppy you could still have a kick at the ball up to the mid 90s I think but then they stopped it altogether. Quote
leigh white Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 I went the Hull v Wigan final at Wembley in 85, it was a classic and the biggest crowd iv'e ever been on that day and unlikely ever to be beaten. 99.801, so packed i couldn't get into my pocket for a cig. Quote

Challenge cup final attendances have been poor in recent years. OK, one match involved a French team, but still they don't get close to filling Wembley anymore. I find this ashame if I'm honest. Maybe rather than heading down south for the CCF fans would rather spend their cash at the magic weekend, summer bash & the Grand Final. The latter does seem to be the one to win now. Quote

Definitely not helped that people now have Catalans and Magic to spend their money on in terms of a ‘day out’, while the on-pitch focus is now on the Grand Final. I’d like to think that moving the Challenge Cup Final to earlier in the season will have had a positive effect, but I suppose we’ll have to wait a little while longer to find that out. Must admit that last season was the first Challenge Cup Final I’ve ever attended, and even then it was only because I’d (poorly) hedged my bets on Leigh teaching the 1895 Cup Final (cue Bi E). Enjoyed it but, for the £200+ the weekend cost, I wouldn’t want to commit to it every year when I already spend enough time and money watching my own club. Quote
ErnestTurnip Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Just stumbled across a Challenge Cup highlights show on iPlayer, bits from 5 different finals to pass 80mins on. Quote
ErnestTurnip Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I know RL is a much hated sport on WW but in case it's been missed just thought I'd give a mention to Kevin Sinfield and his efforts in raising awareness and money for MND last week. We've obviously got a bit of a link to it with Stephen Darby and personally I know a lad whose brother died from it a few years back and it's a fucking awful thing for anyone to suffer from. Over £2m raised so far, fantastic effort by all concerned. Quote
Moderators Casino Posted December 9, 2020 Moderators Posted December 9, 2020 Aye They were filming round the corner the other day Great effort Quote

MancWanderer Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 A condescending nod to “plucky little Leigh” By Christ Wigan were shite. Poor forward line, pedestrian going forward and really not sure what the game plan was Ah well. Fuck it. A win in the bag Quote

And I’m not entirely sure Salford will be too far ahead. Played like fucking trojans (or, you know, Centurions) tonight. Half a dozen first choice players missing and only two points away from one of the top two in the country. Jamie Ellis plays tonight and we’d have won. Simple as that. Still hugely fucked off that the game vs Warrington next week clashes with BWFC, but at this stage of the season it’s Wanderers on the big telly and stick the rugby on one of the other devices. Quote

MancWanderer Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Des Drummond RIP His Leigh days were just before my time. Remember him as a fantastic winger in a dirty, horrible Warrington team Met him once watching Crosfields ARLFC. He asked me who I supported. Told him Wigan. Gave me the death stare. Then cracked a massive smile. Lovely bloke Quote
